NFL Draft 2015 Order: Full Rundown of Round 1 Selections

Matt FitzgeraldApr 30, 2015

The 2015 NFL draft is just on the horizon, and for those who haven't paid heed to any of the mock scenarios being produced left and right, it's at least worth checking out the first-round order.

The big day has finally arrived for teams seeking top-tier prospects who will hopefully prove to be franchise cornerstones. The pressure is on for some front offices more than others, though.

Check out the complete order for the top 32 picks below followed by a closer breakdown of the teams with the most compelling picks therein.

Analysis of Marquee 1st-Round Teams

A lot of attention will rightly shift to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Tennessee Titans since they have the Nos. 1 and 2 overall picks, respectively.

The Cleveland Browns own two first-round selections for the third time in four years. Depending on how quarterback Johnny Manziel comes back from rehab and what cornerback Justin Gilbert does in his second season, they may well have misfired on all four prior picks.

This is a huge draft for Browns general manager Ray Farmer—and that's understating it. Cleveland is perhaps the only team with enough draft assets to move up for a quarterback. Marcus Mariota is thought to be the target if such a thing happens.

Dane Brugler of CBSSports.com weighed in on the possibility:

Whether the Browns stick with Manziel or not will be the determining factor, but they also have other roster holes to fill with two potentially quality players.

Cleveland ranked last in the NFL against the run in 2014, so the defensive line ought to be a priority. The need for a speedy, big receiver should still be present along with a capable pass-catching tight end.

The New Orleans Saints traded away superstar tight end Jimmy Graham to the Seattle Seahawks, but they did pick up the 31st overall pick to go with the 13th pick.

Past Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees has tried to keep a positive perspective on Graham's departure despite the big loss, per ESPN.com's Pat Yasinskas:

"

I think it shocked all of us. A lot of crazy things happened, though, during the course of free agency for a lot of different teams. Unfortunately, you've been around long enough, you see some of these things happen at times. If anything it shows the confidence our organization has in the young players, especially the young skill players on offense, just feeling like those are guys that now have a chance to step up and fill a big void and fill a big role and continue to progress forward.

"

Brees' supporting cast has diminished considerably, so the Saints figure to be in the market for an offensive weapon in addition to help on defense after a woeful 2014 campaign on that side of the ball.

As for Tampa Bay and Tennessee, it is widely expected that the Bucs will choose Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston with the top pick, anointing him the future face of the franchise in that scenario.

Winston checks all of the boxes from a football IQ and arm-talent standpoint. Whether Winston is ready to carry such a burden with his past off-field issues is another matter. That's why Mariota could be an outside contender to go first.

It would be a shock to see Tampa Bay go anywhere other than the QB position with its pick.

Presuming the Buccaneers pass on Mariota, there's a real chance the Titans could either take him, trade out of the spot with a QB-needy team or pick another position entirely. The NFL Network's Jeff Darlington recently reported that Zach Mettenberger might be whom the team goes with under center:

Tennessee is the draft domino that will dictate how the remainder of the opening round goes. It could certainly use a dynamic defensive lineman like USC's Leonard Williams if it opts to stay put and not take a signal-caller.

The juiciest rumor is the one about the Titans trading their pick for San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers, per B/R's Jason Cole in the above video. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt helped Rivers revitalize his career as the former offensive coordinator in San Diego and would be reunited with him in Nashville if the deal went down.

With a past of rather uninspiring drafts, Titans general manager Ruston Webster has a golden opportunity to make a huge splash. Webster needs to have one and even hit on his later picks to salvage some job security beyond 2015.

The Titans franchise is at a crossroads, and it appropriately has a draft position of tremendous power. Whatever happens, there should be plenty of excitement—perhaps the height of all of the draft-night drama—when Tennessee goes on the clock.
