Despite rumors about his job security, Redmond got a public vote of confidence from Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria, via Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com:
"Speaking to CBSSports.com after the Marlins defeated the Nationals 6-2, Loria said of Redmond, "He's the manager. Period. All teams go through bad moments. Ours came early."
Loria also offered praise for Redmond, whose team is 8-11 now after starting 3-11. "He did a very nice job last year, and he works hard."
"
Last week, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reported that Mets Triple-A manager Wally Backman is not considered a candidate to replace Redmond. He added that "Redmond remains under scrutiny."
Backman was originally linked to the job in a report from Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald, who reported not only that Redmond was standing on thin ice but also that the team was considering Backman as a potential replacement.
Redmond is the fourth Marlins manager to either resign or be let go since 2010. (The Marlins also had two interim managers in 2011.)
