Players to Watch

Ben Simmons

With a game smoother than most any high school senior you'll ever see, Australian-born Ben Simmons is arguably the best prospect in Portland. He stands 6'10", and he clearly doesn't lack confidence per this recent tweet after his measurements in Portland.

His handle and passing would be impressive if he were a 6'2" point guard, but they are downright amazing for a player his size.

Simmons is headed to the LSU Tigers for the upcoming college basketball season. His presence should make the SEC an interesting hoops conference next season.

Thon Maker

There won't be a more intriguing prospect in Portland than Thon Maker. The 7-foot, 210-pound prospect was born in the Sudan, but he represents Australia. Despite his extraordinary length, Maker has excellent ball-handling skills, a developing jump shot out to the three-point line and excellent vision.

Talents like Maker don't come around often. Though he's incredibly thin, there's still good reason to believe his body will fill out.

If he can get to 235-240 pounds and maintain the dexterity that he possesses now, he could easily be the best player to come out of the crop of prospects.

Jaylen Brown

Versatility is the word that comes to mind when discussing Jaylen Brown. The 6'8" wing has the physical strength and footwork to post up smaller players, and the athleticism to beat his man off the dribble.

With a 7'0.5" wingspan, Brown's physical traits jump out at you. However, his feel for the game has been just about as impressive as his physical gifts. T.J. Walker of Rivals.com gushes over Brown's skills:

We can only hope we get an opportunity to see Brown and Simmons go head-to-head.

Skal Labissiere

The Kentucky Wildcats have their next potential dominant big man in Haiti's Skal Labissiere. The 7-footer doesn't have the longest arms, but his athleticism and skill have already stood out in drills and practices in Portland.

He's already impressed Mike Schmitz of DraftExpress enough to have Labissiere rated as the top prospect for the 2016 NBA draft. Talented big men are seemingly coming around more frequent these days, but Labissiere has a chance to be one of the best Kentucky has produced.
