Gladbach vs. Borussia Dortmund: Team News, Preview, Live Stream and TV Info

Stefan BienkowskiApr 10, 2015

Borussia Dortmund will be up against it on Saturday when they come up against yet another formidable Bundesliga opponent in Borussia Monchengladbach at Borussia Park.

Lucien Favre's team have been in formidable form lately, picking up scalps as big as Bayern Munich while maintaining an undefeated run that has now stretched to seven games in the German top division.

A shock defeat to Arminia Bielefeld in the cup during the week will have bothered most fans of the Foals but it should act as a wake-up call ahead of the arrival of Jurgen Klopp's team.

Dortmund, on the other hand, have looked much shakier of late despite slowly making their way up the league table. A narrow win over Hoffenheim would have raised spirits after defeat to Bayern last weekend, yet the former German champions should undoubtedly consider their hosts favourites for this tie.

Expected lineups

Christoph Kramer will be a huge blow for Gladbach, as he sits out due to suspension meaning Favre will most likely go with a midfield pairing of Granit Xhaka and Havard Nordtveit in the middle alongside Raffael slightly in front.

This should then leave Max Kruse to play as the lone striker, with Patrick Herrmann and Andre Hahn on either wing.

Martin Stranzl is also still out with an injury, meaning the Foals' back line should lineup with Tony Jantschke and Oscar Wendt on the right and left flanks, respectively, alongside Alvaro Domínguez and veteran defender Roel Brouwers, while Yann Sommer takes up his role in goal.

Dortmund also have their fair share of injuries, but the back line should remain unchanged from previous games with Roman Weidenfeller in goals, while Erik Durm, Neven Subotic, Mats Hummels and Marcel Schmelzer take up their roles from right to left.

Sven Bender does still seem to be doubtful for the tie but if he is back in time he'll take Sebastian Kehl's place in midfield alongside Ilkay Gundogan, while Shinji Kagawa most likely plays in the No. 10 role.

On the left Marco Reus will keep his spot, while Jakub Blaszczykowski continues his return to regular football on the right wing. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will most likely retain his spot as the lone striker.

Key Players

Patrick Herrmann

Although Gladbach's strength undoubtedly comes from their ability to play as a unit and therefore don't tend to rely on single stars in the side, young winger Patrick Herrmann has looked in excellent form this season and will be Dortmund's greatest threat.

The German has amassed 10 goals and two assists from the right wing in the Bundesliga this season—according to WhoScored.com—and should fancy his chances against his opposite number, Schmelzer.

Shinji Kagawa

Kagawa isn't Dortmund's best player, nor is he their most in-form player at the moment, yet the Japanese international does tend to thrive in these big games.

The Japanese international managed to bag a goal and an assist against Hannover a few weeks ago and looked impressive in the Champions League when given an opportunity. Should he start on Saturday he may well thrive against a confident Gladbach side.
