Hey Bleacher Report, What Gives?

Seattle Lion FanAug 24, 2009

This may come across to some as being petty, but I'm not a big fan of the recent changes done on the Bleacher Report.

I didn't have any problems with the addition of "Featured Writers"—the writers chosen are well-deserved.

But the writer rankings have been removed and a comments section has been added and a "Community Picks" added.  I'm all for change, but only changes that make sense.

I'm not hung-up and where I rank as a writer for the Detroit Lions.  Realistically, the only reason I was ranked No. 1 is simply because other writers have a life.  They didn't write as often after the draft as I did.  I was pretty sure when the season started, I'd still be in the top ten due to being prolific

The NFL page still contains writer rankings...why is that?  Is because certain writers choose to only write about a particular team that recognition gets taken away?  Are we all supposed to strive to obtain national rankings and lets forget about any other recognition?

Seems like the Bleacher Report has changed its collective direction.  What was once a great site that would allow sports fans to come and debate issues on their teams now has become how to promote its writers to a national level.

Hey, I like writing about the Lions!  As much as they break the hearts of their fans year after year, they are a passion of mine.

Is the Bleacher Report attempting to become a web-based version of Sports Illustrated?  Where only certain sports teams or athletes are spotlighted?

I will more than likely continue to write for the Bleacher Report...despite the changes, it is still one of the best sports sites out there...and so far, still generates great debates on many issues.

Ah well, it has been said that change is good.  That may be but it doesn't mean I have to like it.  And I am not opposed to change but I often wonder the reason why a change was made.  Was it to improve something?  Was it to make it more efficient?

Changes made on the Bleacher Report did neither, so I suspect changes were made just for the sake of change.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
