LeBron James Passes Michael Jordan for Second Place on NBA All-Star Scoring List

Tim KeeneyFeb 15, 2015

LeBron James wasn't able to add a third All-Star Game MVP to his trophy case Sunday night, but he did continue his assault on the game's record book.

Although the East fell 163-158 to the West, James poured in 30 at Madison Square Garden to give him 278 career All-Star Game points. He passed Kareem Abdul-Jabaar (251) and Michael Jordan (262) to put himself in second place on the game's all-time scoring list behind only Kobe Bryant (280).

Still, as John Ledesma noted, James may not be a lock to catch the Black Mamba next year:

James also added five rebounds and seven assists, but Russell Westbrook scored 41 for the West to take home the MVP award. James was still in good spirits after the entertaining game, via ESPN's J.A. Adande:

This was James' 11th All-Star Game. By comparison, Abdul-Jabbar played 18 All-Star Games, Bryant played 14 and MJ 13. James is now averaging 25.3 per All-Star game, which trails only Kevin Durant, who is at 26.7 despite scoring just three on Sunday night.

James came out of the gate firing, as he knocked down three shots from beyond the arc in the game's first eight minutes and scored 15 of the East's first 21 points. He had no trouble mixing in some typical All-Star Game highlights, as well:

In all reality, passing Jordan for second place is still fairly far down on the list of accomplishments for James, who has two championship rings and four regular season MVP awards. But it's still a testament to his competitiveness that he continues to bring this kind of fire in a meaningless exhibition.

And at just 30 years old, James should have the record soon enough.
