WWE Fastlane 2015: Stars Who Will Benefit the Most at Event

Brad JonesFeb 11, 2015

With WWE Fastlane 2015 acting as the last step on this year's Road to WrestleMania, the event marks the last opportunity for talent to demonstrate just why they deserve a spot at the Showcase of the Immortals.

WWE's youth movement seems to be in full force, but with a roster as stacked as it is at present, it's a question of which Superstars will take priority. Some fan favourites are bound to be relegated to the sidelines—but other stars of tomorrow look set to take their next great step at Fastlane.

Roman Reigns

It's been clear for some time that Roman Reigns was destined for greatness, but Fastlane could present him with something that's been sorely lacking from his ascent: a meaningful singles feud.

Reigns' middling beef with Randy Orton last year culminated in an above-average SummerSlam encounter, but that was the first and the last time that Reigns had a singles match at a pay-per-view. That's simply not enough for a man on his way to the main event of WrestleMania.

Thankfully, that course seems to have been corrected—albeit at the 11th hour. His match with Daniel Bryan at Fastlane will almost certainly be his best singles bout so far, but more importantly, it's given him a rivalry to sink his teeth into.

The past couple of weeks have seen a noticeable improvement in most aspects of Reigns' presentation. He's no longer spouting decades-old references and pulling faces at the camera. Instead, he seems like the sort of wrestler you can imagine at the top of the card.

A solid match with Bryan at the pay-per-view will further legitimize him as a rising star, rather than the flavour of the month being forced down our throats. What Reigns really needs is good competition—and that's exactly what he'll get at Fastlane in the form of Daniel Bryan.

Rusev

While some up-and-comers fall flat in the face of John Cena, it's a testament to Rusev's huge potential that he's used this feud as a means to further improve his broad skill set.

The Bulgarian Brute had the look from the first time he appeared on NXT, but his ring work has seen a steady progression over the course of his time in developmental and on the main roster. He's had Lana by his side to take care of much of the character work, but it seems he's capable in that respect, too.

Rusev's back-and-forth with Cena on this week's Monday Night Raw was exemplary, and his canny reaction to the Russian flag failing to unfurl properly the week prior demonstrates that he can improvise. Those two tools will ensure that Rusev stays relevant long beyond his current nationalist persona.

With his credentials firmly in place, it's time for the Super-Athlete to begin mixing it up with main event talent. At this point, John Cena is the de facto gatekeeper of the main event, so it makes complete sense for him to face Rusev as he climbs the ladder.

As with all Cena feuds, this one could go either way—a huge rub for Rusev, or a character assassination from which he'll spend months recovering. That said, the big man has all the necessary tools to hang with the best. Here's hoping that he'll be able to handle Cena.

Bray Wyatt

It's unclear as of yet what plans are in place for Bray Wyatt at Fastlane—but it certainly seems like something big is in the offing for The Eater of Worlds.

After a strong showing at the Royal Rumble, Wyatt has notched up decisive wins over Dolph Ziggler on back-to-back editions of Monday Night Raw. It's quite clear that he's being built up strong for a major program at WrestleMania.

As such, it would follow that we'll see a similarly dominant performance from Wyatt at Fastlane. If he is going to be in a marquee match at the year's biggest show, it would be very peculiar for him to not even be on the card the month ahead of it.

The Man of 1,000 Truths has demonstrated a renewed vigour in his promos over the last couple of weeks. The content of his diatribes seems to be hinting at a future encounter, and it would make sense for the opponent he's hinting at to be The Undertaker—a prime candidate to face Bray at WrestleMania.

If that match does come off, expect Bray to pick up a major win at Fastlane to pitch him as a worthy contender to a true legend. Even then, this feud has to begin in earnest somewhere—might we see the Deadman make an appearance at the pay-per-view itself? It's certainly not out of the question.

Who do you think is set for a big night at Fastlane? Who needs a strong showing at the last stop ahead of WrestleMania? Let us know in the comments section below.
