WWE Fast Lane 2015: Superstars Who Deserve Biggest Pushes Leading Up to PPV

Donald WoodFeb 6, 2015

The WWE Universe doesn’t know what to expect from the inaugural presentation of the Fast Lane pay-per-view, but a stacked card featuring the biggest names in the business should excite wrestling fans.

With top stars such as Daniel Bryan, Roman Reigns, Rusev and Dean Ambrose under intense scrutiny leading into the February PPV, it is imperative that WWE books these men well in order to maximize interest in the event.

Here are the Superstars who deserve the biggest pushes heading into Fast Lane.

Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns

Without a doubt, the two Superstars who deserve the biggest pushes over the next few weeks are Bryan and Reigns. They will square off at Fast Lane, and the winner will go on to main event WrestleMania 31 against Brock Lesnar.

Bryan was booked to lose to Bray Wyatt leading into the Royal Rumble PPV, but many suspected it only happened because Bryan would go on to win the Battle Royal. That didn’t happen, and now fans are left scratching their heads regarding his booking.

Reigns was booked poorly leading into the Rumble as well. He cut several cartoonish promos before the event, but the WWE gave him his first relatively clean singles loss in his career against Big Show on Raw Monday night.

From this point forward, both men should be booked incredibly strong. The proper booking started on SmackDown this week when Reigns defeated The Miz and Bryan took down Seth Rollins and J&J Security in a 3-on-1 Handicap match.

With both Bryan and Reigns fighting for the right to main event WrestleMania, the WWE should be booking the two men as invincible. This bout will be the main event of Fast Lane, and building the stars to look as strong as possible will help build intrigue.

If Reigns is going to win the match and go on to face Lesnar for the WWE Championship, the company should be doing a much better job of protecting Bryan. Both Bryan and Reigns should be in the midst of huge pushes, not getting beat down by Kane or taking losses to Big Show.

Rusev

Win, lose or draw at Fast Lane, Rusev should be booked as one of the most dangerous wrestlers in the company and one of the most ruthless heels in the business.

Few fans can conceive of John Cena taking the loss on a PPV to a star such as Rusev, but the Russian sympathizer is one of the best antagonists the WWE could have imagined. With Cena representing the United States, this feud will be one of the few times Cena will be cheered by the majority of the crowd in attendance.

The WWE must continue booking Rusev to show no fear toward Cena in the weeks leading to Fast Lane. With the intimidation factor not an issue this time, the WWE Universe should be able to believe Rusev could pull out at least the first win in this series.

Beating Erick Rowan in dominant fashion on SmackDown was a great way to send a message to Cena, but Rusev needs the upper hand on the company’s flagship show. On this week’s Raw, Rusev should attack Cena and leave him lying unconscious in the center of the ring.

The visual of Rusev standing tall over Cena would provide the illusion he could win at Fast Lane.

Dean Ambrose

Ambrose is one of the most overlooked stars in the WWE right now. The company is shoehorning him into the Intercontinental Championship scene instead of involving him in a marquee storyline.

Ambrose has the talent on the mic and in the ring to be one of the biggest stars in the business, and he proved his worth when both Bryan and Reigns were out with injuries. Ambrose stepped up in their absence and emerged as one of the top stars in the industry.

Instead of capitalizing on that momentum, the WWE squandered it and is now forced to put something together at the last minute for Ambrose. A match with Bad News Barrett for the IC title won’t be a bad match, but Ambrose should be fighting to get into one of the main events, not relegated to the midcard.

For the weeks leading up to Fast Lane, Ambrose should be beating some of the top talents on the roster who aren’t currently involved in a top storyline. Instead of beating down Curtis Axel, Ambrose should be building momentum for the February PPV against legitimate competition.

Let’s hope WWE treats Ambrose better moving forward.
