New England Patriots Super Bowl Prop Betting: Odds on Brady, Belichick

OddsShark.comJan 29, 2015

Confident New England Patriots fans feel an against-the-spread win over Seattle is such an easy bet on Super Bowl Sunday that they are moving on to other wagers to increase their profit margins.

And on Super Bowl Sunday, finding New England Patriot prop bets to amuse themselves won’t be very difficult, with lines on what color head coach Bill Belichick’s hoodie will be and how many times Tom Brady’s model wife will be shown during the telecast available in Vegas and at online sportsbooks.

The Pats opened as small underdogs, but heavy betting swung the line around to a one-point edge for New England at most sportsbooks monitored by Bleacher Report’s odds partner Odds Shark.

As of mid-week, most betting outlets were listing a first-half over/under of 12.5 points for New England, and 24.5 points for the whole game.

The high-powered Patriots scored 52 touchdowns during the regular season, an average of 3.3 per game. However, oddsmakers expect the Seattle defense to put a damper on that production, offering an over/under of 2.5 on New England touchdowns.

One thing the Patriots are great at doing is punching the ball in for six points when they get into the red zone. After all, they scored 52 touchdowns.

But they also kicked 35 field goals, and books are offering a price of around +115 on the chance New England's first Super Bowl score will be either a field goal or a safety, rather than a touchdown.

What will the Patriots do first on Super Bowl Sunday, score or punt? Props bettors thinking New England might get off to a good start could get a price of +125 that it scores first, while those who think the Patriots will start slowly can bet -155 that they punt first.

New England elected to go for it on fourth down 10 times during the regular season and succeeded six times. Bettors could cash in at +130 on a successful Patriots fourth-down conversion in the Super Bowl.

New England turned the ball over just 13 times during the regular season, less than once per game. Seattle, on the other hand, forced 23 turnovers. Sportsbooks are listing an over/under of 1.5 on Patriots Super Bowl turnovers.

Several New England-based Super Bowl prop bets can be linked to how handicappers expect the game to play out. For instance, the over/under was 94.5 yards on Patriots rushing yardage, 62.5 on rushing yardage for running back LeGarrette Blount, and 36.5 on Tom Brady pass attempts.

Bettors who believe New England might try to run the ball against the Seahawks and might find some success could bet the over on the team yardage, or on Blount, or both.

And those who think the Patriots might abandon the run, as they did against the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC divisional round, might play the under on the rushing yardage and the over on Brady's attempts.

Super Bowl 49 prop bettors could also get a price of +195 on the chance Brady throws the ball more than 40 times and a slew of other interesting lines.
