Sherman Plays Through Elbow Injury

Sunday, Jan. 18

Seattle Seahawks star cornerback Richard Sherman did all he could to fight through an elbow injury during Sunday's NFC Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers.

Bleacher Report NFL captured Sherman as he grimaced in pain:

After the game, CNN's Rachel Nichols provided an update on Sherman:

Robert Klemko of TheMMQB reports that the X-ray on Sherman's elbow came back negative. Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports added more details on the injury:

He is confident he'll play in Super Bowl XLIX, per Albert Breer of the NFL Network:

Sherman took to Twitter to comment on his elbow:

Sherman picked off Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the end zone on the Packers' opening drive, but numerous turnovers from the Seahawks offense put Seattle's defense in a tough spot for most of the game.

The Legion of Boom secondary also lost safety Earl Thomas earlier in the contest, but he returned just as Sherman did. Former NFL head team physician David J. Chao weighed in on what the injuries mean for the Seahawks standouts moving forward:

That both Sherman and Thomas were able to tough it out bodes well for the reigning Super Bowl champions' chances to defend their title. It's a testament to the defense's collective resilience that it weathered five turnovers, showing that Seattle can win in a variety of ways.

An extra week off before Super Bowl XLIX should help Sherman and Thomas recover.

As excellent as the defense is all around, those are two extremely important leaders and capable of producing game-changing takeaways at any moment. If the Seahawks can just take better care of the football on February 1, a championship repeat seems realistic.
