Big Update on WWE Superstar Jeff Hardy: Is He Staying or Going?

Joe Burgett Aug 9, 2009

In a very surprising story, it seems Jeff Hardy may be staying with the WWE. Many thought that Hardy would leave after Summerslam considering he just signed a one-month deal with the WWE through the event.

However, the WWE may have struck some sort of deal or they may be close to one because the creative team has been told to plan storylines after Summerslam and through September for the Charismatic Enigma, according to ewrestlingnews.com.

His current deal ends basically the day after Summerslam, so if the WWE is indeed planning storylines through September for him, he would have to have signed some sort of deal.

The WWE wants him to stay of course, and they have done everything to get him to. In fact, the WWE had CM Punk drop the World Heavyweight Title to him in an effort to get him to stick around.

The WWE knows he is probably the most popular superstar they have, and his merchandise sales are the highest in the company. In a word, Jeff Hardy is "Money."

Vince McMahon knows if Hardy leaves, he loses all the money he could make off of him. Why would he let that happen?

So obviously, the WWE wants to make him as happy as possible in an effort to get him to sign a new deal.

Now, even though the creative team was told to plan something with him for September, there is nothing about him having a storyline in October yet. So, he may have just signed another one-month deal.

Nothing has been mentioned regarding a long-term deal. However, we can speculate. Considering Hardy has already signed a deal through Summerslam, you would think he already planned on leaving and won't sign yet another one-month deal.

In fact, if he were to do that, it wouldn't make much sense. I mean, why sign a one month deal knowing you want to leave, then sign another one month deal to stay?

I personally think Hardy signed the one-month deal back in July to stick around until the long-term deal was reached fully.

He obviously cannot wrestle in the WWE without a contract according to their policy, and the other legitimately expired, so he had to sign a short-term deal with the WWE to not disappear from TV abruptly.

If he really wanted to leave however, wouldn't you think he would have just left not caring? Also, the WWE could easily write him out before his regular deal expires anyway.

The fact that he signed the short-term deal is significant, it shows that he does want to stay, but may be unsure. If he has indeed signed a new deal, I think this time it is long-term.

To me, it makes no sense to sign one-month deals over and over again when you could have one long term contract.

If the WWE pulls out their pocket books and pays Hardy what he is worth to them, Hardy will have no choice but to stay. You dangle around $4 million to $5 million in front of someone, their decisions start to change, it is human nature.

Now, Hardy may take time off, since he does need it. But, I feel it will be under a long term WWE contract and he will be back in a few months, rather than what many think could be two years or so if he left without a contract and came back when he planned.

Now, he still could sign another one-month deal, it isn't unheard of. But, I just feel Hardy is too big right now to leave. He is the current World Heavyweight Champion, and he has won three World Titles in the past year alone.

Since he came back from TNA, he has had numerous title reigns; Tag, Intercontinental, and of course World Titles.

So, if he signs a new long-term deal, the WWE could make it worth his while. They could keep getting titles placed on him. Also, he could get a lighter schedule from them too.

If he had a lighter schedule similar to HBK's or Undertaker's, he could be around for another five to six years, maybe longer since he is not hurting his body as much.

So, if he signs a long term deal with the WWE he would definitely have the money he wanted, the schedule he needed, and the time off he both wants and needs too. It is a win/win for both parties if he signs long term in my opinion.
