Biggest Takeaways from Rex Ryan's Introductory Press Conference
Rex Ryan was officially unveiled as the new head coach of the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday afternoon, and it didn't take long for Ryan to set the sort of brash, confident tone that marked his years with the New York Jets.
Cindy Boren of The Washington Post passed along the opening remark Ryan made as he stepped in front of the microphone after being introduced by owner Terry Pegula:

And so it begins.
Ryan likely won over the Buffalo fanbase immediately, citing the team's history and making it clear that he plans on taking the team back to the playoffs, per the Bills on Twitter:
He also noted that, despite the team's excellent defense last season, he plans on making the unit even better, per Mike Rodak of ESPN:
Of course, the issue with the Bills wasn't really the defense but rather the offense, namely the quarterback position. Ryan spoke about young quarterback EJ Manuel in his presser, per the team's official Twitter account:
He didn't rule out the possibility of bringing a player he once coached in New York and a free-agent-to-be, Mark Sanchez, with him to Buffalo, however, per Rodak:
Well, that would be interesting.
Ryan also spoke about what his offensive philosophy would be with the Bills, per Michele Steele of ESPN:
And he addressed the run versus pass balance he'll be looking for, per Vic Carucci of The Buffalo News:
Ultimately, he reiterated that the team will be looking to aggressively exploit the other team's shortcomings, per the Bills' Twitter account:
Ryan also addressed his feelings about being fired from the Jets. He was 46-50 in six seasons with the Jets and led the team to consecutive conference championships in his first two seasons, though the team hadn't reached the playoffs under his watch since the 2010 season.
He'll certainly be bringing a chip on his shoulder with him to Buffalo and said as much, per Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News:
Just don't expect Ryan to change anytime soon, per Matthew Fairburn of Syracuse.com:
Despite getting the axe in New York, Ryan insisted that the team he's gunning for remains the New England Patriots, per Rich Cimini of ESPN New York:
It's hard to imagine that Ryan wouldn't enjoy sweeping the Jets next season when the two teams play. Nonetheless, his goal in Buffalo now is to lead the team back to the postseason and win a Super Bowl, not to win a few grudge matches.
It's certainly an exciting hire for the Bills, and one that will never leave the fans bored. While there will be some adjustments as Ryan and Greg Roman instill new systems on offense and defense, respectively, the hiring of Ryan seems like the perfect fit for a Buffalo team that has the talent in place (outside of perhaps the quarterback position) to consistently reach the postseason.
It's on, Buffalo.
