Rockets Looking to Tie Record for Most Games with 15 3-Pointers
The Houston Rockets enter Saturday's contest against the Utah Jazz with an opportunity to tie the NBA record of 10 games in a single season with 15 or more three-pointers made as a team, per NBA.com/Stats.
Houston recorded its ninth such game of the season Thursday against the New York Knicks, converting 16 out of 36 three-point attempts in a 120-96 blowout win at Madison Square Garden.
Just 36 games into the current season, this Rockets team is looking to match a record that was jointly set by none other than the Knicks and Rockets back in 2012-13.
Widely known for their affinity for shots either at the rim or from beyond the arc, the Rockets easily lead the NBA with 33.8 three-point attempts per game, putting them 6.7 ahead of the second-place Phoenix Suns (27.1).
The margin is not quite as gaping when it comes to three-pointers made per game, as the Rockets average 11.8, while the second-place Los Angeles Clippers average 10.3.
Houston hasn't actually been all that accurate from beyond the arc this season, with the team's three-point percentage of .348 ranking just 17th in the NBA.
While largely known for their offensive prowess in recent years, the Rockets rank just 18th in points per 100 possessions (102.7) this season, but they have made up for it by ranking second in opponents' points per 100 possessions (98.5).
There will likely be some regression toward past trends on both ends, but if the Rockets can somehow improve their offensive efficiency without giving up anything on defense, they could emerge as a viable contender in the loaded Western Conference.
