Ben Tate to Steelers: Latest Contract Details, Analysis and Reaction

Timothy RappDec 30, 2014

With Le'Veon Bell still questionable to play against the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday night in the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs, the Pittsburgh Steelers have added some insurance in the backfield, signing running back Ben Tate.

The team announced the news on Twitter:

With Bell recovering from a knee injury suffered in Week 17, it's unlikely he'll be able to play on Saturday night, though the team did receive some good news when it was discovered he didn't tear any ligaments in the knee, per Adam Schefter and Scott Brown of ESPN.

That means the Steelers likely will be turning from the player who accumulated 2,215 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns to a timeshare between Dri Archer, Josh Harris and Tate. It's been a tough year for Tate, who was cut by both the Cleveland Browns and Minnesota Vikings this year and has rushed for just 371 yards and four scores.

He might have the opportunity to end his season on a bang, however, as Pittsburgh may turn to him to carry the load in the absence of Bell.
