3 Christmas Gifts for AC Milan Boss Filippo Inzaghi
When Pippo Inzaghi took the coaching job earlier this year, he was handed a team that had just finished in eighth place in Serie A. In other words, he was given a tough task.
Milan had fired his former teammate Clarence Seedorf, and there were a few new players coming in. Now the holidays have arrived, and Milan are still looking for that elusive third Champions League spot.
Of course, the Rossoneri need help; they haven't been the league leaders at Christmas time in years, but a win against Roma this weekend could propel them into third.
Let's take a look at Inzaghi's wish list.
A Striker from Santa (Berlusconi)
1 of 3
Milan always used to play in the Christmas tree formation. At this time of year, it was especially appropriate.
But Rossoneri president Silvio Berlusconi has a history of asking for two strikers.
Fernando Torres and Giampaolo Pazzini have not played much together, but they also only have one goal between them (and Pazzini appears on the way out).
What Milan need is a young, functional forward; maybe a player like Mattia Destro. They could even move Stephan El Shaarawy into a central position and see what happens. It's not like he's having the season of his life on the wing, anyway.
Usually, Berlusconi's wish is really a demand. Come January, Milan may have a new set of strikers.
A New Deal for Nigel de Jong
2 of 3
The last thing Inzaghi needs is another hole to fill.
Nigel de Jong has been the coach's most reliable player. In a disastrous midfield three, De Jong has not only prevented goals but has also scored them.
His contract expires at the end of the summer, and clubs are already circling him according to Corriere Dello Sport (via the Mirror). A new contract for De Jong means a little peace for Inzaghi.
A Win Against Roma
3 of 3
A win against Roma would finally give this team and their fans a sense of hope. It would indicate some sort of direction. For the majority of this season, Milan have been all over the place and have had trouble stringing important wins together.
Beating Napoli and Roma in two consecutive games would show everyone that maybe, just maybe, this team can compete—not only in the league, but eventually in Europe.
