Carlos Hyde's Updated 2014 Fantasy Value After Frank Gore's Injury

Andrew GouldDec 14, 2014

In an unaccustomed sight, Frank Gore became a reluctant spectator during a pivotal Week 15 clash with the division-rival Seattle Seahawks. This gives rookie Carlos Hyde a golden opportunity to steal the spotlight.

Gore left Sunday's game during the first half. Per the San Francisco 49ers' official Twitter page, he will not return due to a concussion:

Before going down, the veteran gifted his fantasy owners with a touchdown, which is more than his owners could have hoped for against Seattle's stingy defense.

Yet strict concussion protocol could force Gore to miss his first game since 2010, which would direct gamers to turn Hyde's way. Despite averaging an uninspiring 3.6 yards per carry, the former Ohio State standout has scored four touchdowns this season in limited touches.

If Gore isn't cleared to play against the San Diego Chargers in Week 16, Hyde merits a waiver-wire add and flex consideration. Being the lead rusher on a team committed to the run is enough to make any back worth a look, especially when he's a powerful young rusher auditioning to become a regular contributor next year.
