McRoberts Speaks on Injury

Wednesday, Dec. 17

Ethan Skolnick of Bleacher Report passed along comments from Josh McRoberts after it was revealed that he will need surgery on his injured knee:

McRoberts Needs Surgery, Could End Season

The story of Josh McRoberts' career has been injuries. The Miami Heat forward has been in the NBA for seven years yet has never played 80 games in a season and has only played more than 50 games once.

The Heat confirmed on Monday that McRoberts will have knee surgery to repair a tear in his meniscus, an injury that could end McRoberts' season:

McRoberts signed a four-year deal with the Heat over the summer, which seemed like a long pact for a player with his injury history.

The Heat underwent drastic changes over the summer with LeBron James signing with Cleveland, so McRoberts was going to play an important role for the team as Miami transitioned into a new era for the franchise.

Without McRoberts, the Heat are weakened further in the frontcourt as Chris Bosh continues to recover from a calf strain. Shawne Williams will afill in for McRoberts at the power forward position, via Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel.

Considering McRoberts' injury history, it's natural to wonder if this latest setback will change how head coach Erik Spoelstra decides to use the former Duke star. His size is a valuable tool for an otherwise small Miami team, so it will take every precaution to keep him healthy for the long haul.
