Anthony Davis Records Rare Stat Line Only Done by Olajuwon
New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis provided a rare stat line in Tuesday's 112-104 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, finishing with 25 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, six steals and four blocks in a game that was mostly hyped for the season debut of Thunder forward Kevin Durant.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau (via ESPN.com), Hakeem Olajuwon is the only other player to hit all five of those statistical marks in a single regular-season game, having done so in a March 10, 1987 double-overtime contest against the Seattle SuperSonics.
Though he needed overtime to get there, Olajuwon recorded a stat line that was arguably even more impressive, finishing with 38 points, 17 rebounds, six assists, seven steals and 12 blocks for one of the more impressive triple-doubles in NBA history.
Olajuwon was a 24-year-old, third-year pro at the time, while Davis is currently just 21 years old but also in his third NBA season.
Already one of the leading candidates for MVP honors, Davis ranks fourth in the league in points per game (24.9), seventh in rebounds (11.3), first in blocks (3.06) and tied for second in steals (2.31).
His .556 field-goal percentage is best among the league's top 44 scorers, as you have to go all the way down to 45th-place Derrick Favors (15.9 PPG) to find a better conversion rate (.563).
With just 1.4 turnovers per game and a robust 33.33 PER through 16 contests according to ESPN, Davis has done pretty much everything he can from an individual standpoint, though his team's 8-8 record might not sit too well with MVP voters, if the season were to end today.
