Liverpool Transfer News: Latest on Jackson Martinez, Mauro Icardi and Petr Cech
Despite Brendan Rodgers confirming he isn't thinking about signing new players in the January transfer window, reported by Dominic King of the Mail Online, Liverpool continue to be linked with £30 million-rated Porto star Jackson Martinez.
In fact, the Colombian will form one third of a potential £47 million triple swoop, according to Calciomercato.com (h/t Metro). Chelsea's Petr Cech is said to be on the manager's radar for £7 million, while Norwich winger Nathan Redmond could set the club back £10 million when the winter window hits.
Martinez's valuation is likely to increase if he continues his current run of scoring. The 28-year-old grabbed his fifth Champions League goal of the season against BATE Borisov on Tuesday night, placing him on par with Edinson Cavani, Karim Benzema and Sergio Aguero for the season.

Only Lionel Messi and Luiz Adriano currently have more, highlighting the experienced forward's clinical nature. Martinez has also scored seven in 10 Liga Sagres matches, per WhoScored.com, making him an extremely tempting prospect when Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert have just the one league goal between them.
Martinez brings a little bit of everything to the table at his best. He is quick, powerful and doesn't shy away from the physical fight. Rodgers may also be interested in adding his movement to the Reds' lineup; unlike Balotelli and Lambert, he will actively break beyond the last defender to receive incisive passes.
He could work excellently in front of Adam Lallana, who showed his creative side during the recent loss to Crystal Palace. Portuguese newspaper Record reported Liverpool's rumoured interest earlier in the week (h/t 101 Great Goals):
Although Inter Milan's Mauro Icardi is also said to have caught Rodgers' attention, per Jamie Anderson of the Express, competition from the likes of Tottenham, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid would make a possible £28 million deal difficult to pull through.

Cech's transfer appears unlikely, particularly as Jose Mourinho recently rubbished suggestions the veteran goalkeeper could leave, noted by Chelsea's official Twitter account and Miguel Delaney of ESPN FC:
B/R UK's Garry Hayes and Ryan Bailey recently considered a Chelsea without Cech:
Norwich City's Redmond has four assists in 17 Championship appearances this campaign, per WhoScored, and perhaps isn't an obvious answer to Liverpool's lack of attacking intensity.
The 20-year-old is talented and looks to have a bright future ahead of him, but he managed just a single goal and three assists in 34 Premier League displays before Norwich were relegated last season.
He would be a smart signing if loaned back to Carrow Road to hone his game and could eventually sit on the opposite flank to Raheem Sterling in an offensive trident.

Rodgers appears more intent on galvanising his current squad than adding to it, however. "It (buying new players) is not something I am looking at," the manager said, reported by King. "After the weekend (loss to Palace), the focus was not to dwell on that. We have to learn from that and try and get a result here (against Ludogorets)."
B/R UK guest columnist and former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore joined Bailey to discuss how the club can improve in January:
Having spent handsomely during the summer, Rodgers is now in a difficult position. Most of his new signings are yet to consistently impress and have actually slowed the attacking intensity that saw Liverpool claim second place last season. This needs to change with haste.
Rodgers can't afford to add greater numbers and risk the same thing happening again, particularly as many signings of years gone by (Fabio Borini, Luis Alberto, Iago Aspas, etc.) have also failed to impress.
A quick burst of confidence is needed, but consistency after the next win will be paramount to Liverpool regaining their swagger.
