Marlins Should Stand Pat
Marlins general manager Michael Hill was a guest on the Marlins telecast Tuesday night. He chatted with Rich Waltz and Tommy Hutton about what Larry Beinfest and his staff are doing in trying to improve the Marlins.
A fan asked Hill a question via email about the Marlins acquiring a player that is not named Roy Halladay. Hill responded by saying who said his team is not involved in the Halladay sweepstakes.
This brought a chuckle to this viewer. Not only are the Marlins not going to be getting Halladay, but they are not going to acquire anyone in a trade tomorrow.

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
What we see from this team so far is what we are going to see for the rest of the season, and that's not a bad thing.
The bullpen is set, and the hitters have finally figured it out how to do well in situational hitting.
Sure it would be nice to get a hitter that would protect Hanley Ramirez, but those guys are not available, and even if they were, they would have been free agents that were not going to come back next year.
The Marlins could use a decent starter to complement Josh Johnson and Ricky Nolasco because their chances of making the playoffs are better with three starters performing well.
With that said, the Marlins found that guy in Rick VandenHurk, who continues to pitch well by striking out nine Braves and allowing two run in six innings last night.
As long as VandenHurk keeps doling out quality starts, they are going to be fine.
If not him, maybe Anibal Sanchez can somehow do well for the final few weeks of the season, which is when he will likely be called up.
The Marlins are good enough to compete with what they have right now. They just need to keep playing good baseball as they have done since the West Coast trip.
There is no point giving up valuable prospects like Michael Stanton for a rental player.
It would be silly to give him up especially when they can build around him in a year or two. It's important to have a player like him to be around when the new stadium opens up in a few years.
The Marlins' farm system is not in the level of the Red Sox and the Phillies when it comes to having young players that can contribute in the majors right away. They have some nice players, but there are not that many so the Marlins would have a hard time in making a deal anyway.
They don't have that luxury where they can give up Stanton and survive after that.
Anyone that rips the organization for not making a trade on deadline day is missing the point not to mention being ridiculous.
It takes a lot to go make a deal when you deal with a player's salary not to mention giving up prospects.
The Marlins are just not in that position, and that's okay.
This team really is not a playoff team.
The best approach is let these guys continue to grow and improve. Maybe good things will continue to happen like we are seeing now.
Right now, the best move is no move at all.
