Thomas Leaves Week 16 With Injured Ribs

Pierre Thomas has spent most of his eight-year career as the lead running back for the New Orleans Saints. Unfortunately, injuries have robbed him of playing time in 2014, and it's happened yet again.
According to the Saints, Thomas is dealing with a rib injury, and his return is questionable:
Thomas was later ruled out for the game, via Ramon Antonio Vargas of The Advocate:
One benefit of Thomas already missing time this season is it's forced the Saints to look to other avenues for their rushing yards. Mark Ingram is having the best year of his career, including a 30-carry game against Carolina on October 30.
At 30 years old, Thomas is in that range where you start to see running backs slow down from all the punishment they take. He's been durable the previous three years, playing 47 out of 48 regular-season games, but the numbers have been dropping along the way.
After averaging 5.1 yards per carry in 2011, Thomas dropped to 4.5 and 3.7 over the next two seasons. He did get back over four yards per carry this season, though that was in limited action. The veteran is a vital weapon in the passing game, especially on screen passes.
The Saints have been inconsistent on both sides of the ball this season, so losing a versatile weapon like Thomas is just one more obstacle they will have to overcome. They did it earlier this season and have the depth at running back to withstand it again.
