Eddie Lacy, James Starks' Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 11

Tyler ConwayNov 16, 2014

It's good to be a Green Bay Packer. A week after dropping a 55 spot on the Bears, the Packers were back at it again Sunday, walloping the Philadelphia Eagles 53-20.

For the second straight week, nearly every player relevant to fantasy owners had a big day. Aaron Rodgers threw for 341 yards and three touchdowns; Jordy Nelson went for 109 yards and a score; Randall Cobb made 10 receptions for 129 yards; and Eddie Lacy trucked some folks over en route to 114 total yards.

Lacy made the most of his 13 touches, scoring a one-yard touchdown run and scampering in from 32 yards out on Rodgers' final touchdown toss. The Packers running back also broke his first 30-plus-yard run of the season, a 37-yard scamper that accounted for more than half of his 69 rushing yards.

Lacy's day was a stark contrast to James Starks, who was the one Green Bay player to turn in a disappointing afternoon. Starks managed only nine yards on his eight carries and caught two balls for 17 yards. The veteran has received at least five carries in five of his past six games, and the Packers appear satisfied with splitting the reps between Starks and Lacy.

Since moving away from the every-down role in which he struggled early, Lacy has been far more effective. He's averaging 5.07 yards per carry since Starks became a regular lineup fixture, staying noticeably fresher as the game progresses. Lacy averaged just 3.04 yards per carry for the season's first four weeks.

Assuming Green Bay continues splitting the work, Lacy should continue producing on a per-carry basis but will be a limited fantasy option. He's rushed for more than 70 yards once all season and doesn't have a 20-carry game yet. His increased workload in the passing game is a promising sign, but it's all a matter of who is on the field when Rodgers checks down. Relying on a 5'11", 230-pound beast to become Matt Forte overnight probably isn't the most prudent use of resources.

Lacy is an RB2 in most leagues, or at the very least a flex play. Starks, meanwhile, probably isn't even owned in his family fantasy league. He is a fine player but totally irrelevant from a fantasy perspective.
