Included in the news release were comments from general manager Ted Thompson about McCarthy's new deal.

"We are very happy to extend our relationship with Mike," Thompson said. "Over the past nine years, he's provided great stability and consistency to the Packers organization and our community as an excellent coach and leader. He's a good man and we look forward to the future with Mike as our head coach."

As for his long-term future with the team? McCarthy has no plans to stop coaching anytime soon, via Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com:

The team's Twitter account also highlighted how accomplished McCarthy has been in his tenure:

Tom Pelissero of USA Today weighed in on the news:

After some turbulence to begin amid a landmark quarterback transition from Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers, McCarthy has guided the Packers to five straight playoff appearances and the past three NFC North division titles.

Although Green Bay lost its last game at New Orleans, it still used a Week 9 bye for productive purposes and secured a brilliant offensive coach in McCarthy to keep Rodgers and the offense running smoothly for years to come.

McCarthy now has the opportunity to continue bolstering his resume and rise closer to the two legendary Packers coaching predecessors he trails in overall victories. That ongoing quest will continue when Green Bay (5-3) hosts the rival Chicago Bears in Week 10's Sunday night showdown.
