Silva Tweaks Knee in Newcastle Loss
David Silva picked up an injury in the opening 10 minutes of Manchester City's Capital One Cup clash against Newcastle United at the Etihad on Wednesday, a match City lost 2-0.
The instrumental Spaniard had to be replaced by Samir Nasri after a clash with Magpies player Ryan Taylor. The Sky Blues were already down 1-0 following a Rolando Aarons strike.
Manchester City provided an update from Manuel Pellegrini after the match:
"Manuel revealed that he will not know the extent of the problem until the Spaniard is assessed tomorrow but defended his decision to name a strong line-up for this Capital One Cup clash four days ahead of the visit of Manchester United.
'We will see tomorrow,' said the Chilean. 'David has a problem with his knee, but I don’t know how serious it is.
'There was no reason why David cannot play. We played on Saturday and had four days to recover, so I don’t think that was a reason. He was prepared to play, but maybe not the whole game.'
"
Pellegrini's side host local rivals Manchester United on Sunday in the Premier League as they look to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat to West Ham. Silva's absence would be a huge blow on such a vital occasion.
