Analyzing Whether the Ascension Would Make Suitable New Members of Wyatt Family
Regular watchers of WWE NXT will be fully aware that in recent months, an abundance of talent has started to rise to the top of the tree.
In fact, names like Sami Zayn, Adrian Neville and many others are grabbing the attention of wrestling fans to such an extent that they probably feel promotion to the main roster is imminent.
That's without including new recruits Finn Balor (Price Devitt) and Hideo Itami (Kenta). Simply put, NXT is now a healthy breeding ground for WWE talent, and there are a couple of openings coming up on the main roster for someone to step up.
Bray Wyatt has been inactive inside the ring for a good few weeks now, but avid watchers of the WWE will have noted that his "Buzzards"—Erick Rowan and Luke Harper—have been set free and released into the wild of the WWE roster as singles competitors.
What the future holds for them is unclear, but it is the two holes that have been left around Wyatt that are arguably more intriguing. The Wyatt Family as a stable has worked incredibly well, and when the WWE found a purpose for all three (think back to their feud with The Shield, for example), they were some of the most exciting characters on the roster.
So if Wyatt is going to be getting some new family members, then where should the WWE start to look? Naturally, NXT is the answer, with the most dominant tag team on that roster looking like pretty suitable candidates.
For almost a year, The Ascension dominated the tag division with some gripping performances before finally dropping the belts to Sin Cara and Kalisto at NXT Takeover: Fatal 4-Way. With them no longer in charge of affairs in the tag division, a move to the main roster could happen sooner than people think. But in order to be members of The Wyatt Family, they would have to fit the dynamic Wyatt himself possesses.
If we study both Konnor and Viktor closely as characters, they genuinely seem like they could bounce off Wyatt in a similar way that Rowan and Harper both did. Take their wrestling style, for example. Viktor has a real look and feel of Luke Harper about him—and it's not just the long hair.
He's a real throwback wrestler, a guy who uses brute force to dismantle his opponents with some pretty devastating moves that make even the most casual wrestling fan wince in agony.
They have great chemistry as a duo, best typified by their Fall of Man finishing maneuver, which combines both men taking down a single opponent in some style.
They're also very dark as a duo. They have a real edge about them, which Wyatt also has in abundance. You get the feeling that if they did join The Wyatt Family, they would fit right in alongside Bray and his creepy series of vignettes.
The fact fans are also starting to buy into the NXT brand also makes them good candidates. The WWE wouldn't be bringing up a pair of rookies for developmental wrestling; it would be bringing up a pair of wrestlers that many people are already familiar with. When stepping up to the main roster, that would be a major plus.
It doesn't even mean that The Ascension has to end, either. As we all know, Rowan and Harper teamed up on several occasions when Wyatt was tied up with people like John Cena, so bringing up two guys who have teamed together for well over a year has its merits.
Of course, there's no guarantees that the WWE is going to run with a new incarnation of The Wyatt Family. The company would have to be very careful if it did. Think back to a reincarnated Nexus, for example. Chopping and changing stables is risky business, but if anyone from outside of the main roster could manage to step into Rowan and Harper's shoes, The Ascension would be more than a safe bet.
