Crystal Palace vs. Chelsea: Neil Warnock and Jose Mourinho Post-Match Reaction

Gianni VerschuerenOct 18, 2014

Jose Mourinho was satisfied by Chelsea's complete performance in their 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday, a match he felt the Blues dominated from start to finish:

Chelsea took a quick lead through Oscar but saw Cesar Azpilicueta sent off just before half-time after a dangerous tackle on Mile Jedinak. Damien Delaney ran into his second yellow card just minutes later, however, and with just 20 players on the pitch, the Blues took advantage of the spaces.

Cesc Fabregas made it 2-0 with one of the most well-worked goals of the season, and Frazier Campbell's late goal couldn't push the hosts to an equaliser.

As shared by the team's official Twitter feed, Mourinho felt like the two red cards actually made things easier on the Blues:

The win means Chelsea keep their five-point lead over defending champions Manchester City, who beat Tottenham 4-1 earlier on Saturday. The boss refused to elaborate on questions regarding the title, however:

Mourinho talked about the keys to the match, according to Bleacher Report's Garry Hayes:

The Blues will play Maribor in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, and Mourinho confirmed Diego Costa won't be fit to start that match:

The red cards for Azpilicueta and Delaney came with some controversy, and Neil Warnock was spotted telling his players not to shake hands with the officials after the match. Via Bleacher Report UK's Garry Hayes, Mourinho was smart enough not to comment:

Speaking on the Champions League fixture, the Portuguese manager announced Andre Schurrle and Ramires also wouldn't be playing, before firing some shots at the Spanish national team, per ESPN FC's Miguel Delaney:

Warnock's behaviour after the match drew the ire of fans and pundits on social media, and Footballfan.zone were none too happy:

BBC Sports' Ian Dennis also didn't agree with his assessment the Chelsea players went out of line when Delaney ran into his second yellow:

Via the club's official Twitter account, he didn't share Mourinho's views on the match:

Warnock also explained where his frustration with the sending off came from, as he was about to take off Delaney at the time:

On the title race, he refused to name one of Chelsea or Manchester City as favourites:

The Glaziers played an open and attacking match against the undefeated Blues, and despite the loss, the hosts will have plenty of positives to take from Saturday's fixture.

Chelsea will play Maribor in midweek before the highly anticipated clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Matchday 9.
