The San Francisco Giants defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 5-4 in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series with a little home-field advantage and a lot of help from reliever Randy Choate in the bottom of the 10th inning.

The Giants got out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but the Cardinals remained resilient and tied the score in the seventh. The game remained even until this throwing error gave San Francisco a walk-off victory, via MLB GIFS:

Preview and Prediction

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - OCTOBER 07: Ryan Vogelsong #32 of the San Francisco Giants reacts after Hunter Pence #8 caught a ball hit by Jayson Werth #28 of the Washington Nationals for an out in the sixth inning during Game Four of the National League Division

Neither team fared badly at the plate on Tuesday. The Giants got to John Lackey early, as singles from Buster Posey and Pablo Sandoval were followed by doubles from Hunter Pence and Travis Ishikawa to net four early runs. The Cardinals saw another big hit from Kolten Wong, notching a two-RBI triple, followed by an RBI single from Jhonny Peralta and a solo shot from Randal Grichuk.

There's no shortage of sluggers and viable hitters on each of these teams, and based on the upcoming Game 4 pitching matchup, we should be in for another nail-biter.

Ryan Vogelsong will get the start for the Giants on Wednesday. The nine-year veteran notched his first 2014 postseason start against the Washington Nationals, going 5.2 innings while allowing just two hits—both to Bryce Harper—and one earned run. He walked two and struck out four batters in that span, finishing the game with a 1.59 ERA.

This is nothing new to Vogelsong. He's dominated the postseason for his entire career. Just how good has he been? Take a look at this tweet from MLB:

That's just impressive.

Taking the mound for the Cardinals is 24-year-old Shelby Miller. Like Vogelsong, Miller started once so far in the postseason. He went 5.2 innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers—Clayton Kershaw pitched against him—and was unfazed, allowing five hits and two earned runs along the way. He walked three and struck out four, earning an ERA of 3.18.

Although, that performance was in St. Louis. Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com tweeted that Miller is preparing for a postseason road start:

We should expect another close contest in Game 4; however, despite a high level of talent from each of these pitchers, it's hard to go against Vogelsong's playoff record and experience. Expect the Giants to notch another win after getting to Miller early.

Prediction: Giants 4, Cardinals 2
