"

Bastian Schweinsteiger has been back out on the practice ground for a week now as he continues his recovery from persistent knee tendon problems. The World Cup winner talked about his progress on Friday with FCB.tv. 'There are a lot more movements I can do now and it feels good,' Schweinsteiger said, 'it’s getting better and better.' It is feared Bastian Schweinsteiger may not play football again in 2014 as the German captain and Bayern Munich midfielder continues to recover from injury.

German paper Bild reports (h/t Stephan Uersfeld of ESPN FC) that the 30-year-old, who is currently suffering from a patellar tendon problem, will only play a role for Bayern in the second half of this season.

After winning the World Cup in the summer—despite heading into the tournament with knee troubles—he has yet to appear for the Bundesliga champions so far this term and is set to miss out on Germany's upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers with Poland and Ireland.

Germany general manager Oliver Bierhoff admits it is difficult to predict when he may return to action, per Uersfeld's piece: "We are hoping that he will recover soon, but there is no exact prognosis. You can sense that he is impatient on the one hand but on the other knows that he is coming out of a difficult year. He needs time to return to full fitness."

Schweinsteiger is a vital player for both Germany and Bayern, although Bundesliga writer Cristian Nyari notes the strength national coach Joachim Low has to call upon in his absence:

However, both club and country will be hoping that Schweinsteiger returns to full fitness as soon as possible considering his standing as one of the best central midfielders on the planet.

But it looks likely he may not be taking to the pitch for at least another 10 weeks unless rapid improvements are made in his recovery.
