Nationals vs. Giants: Game 4 Time, TV Info, Live Stream and More

Matt FitzgeraldOct 7, 2014

Against seemingly all odds, the Washington Nationals got off the ropes to beat the San Francisco Giants 4-1 on Monday at AT&T Park to extend the National League Division Series.

Washington had just suffered a grueling 18-inning loss in Game 2 but somehow found the resolve to get the win to force Game 4 on Tuesday. That suddenly puts all the pressure on San Francisco to hold court at home to avoid a trip back to the nation's capital for a decisive fifth game.

Below is an overview of everything prospective viewers need to know in terms of TV and live stream coverage, along with a Game 4 preview.

Game 4 Preview and Prediction

The Nationals will trot All-Star southpaw Gio Gonzalez to the mound, while the Giants will deploy Ryan Vogelsong, who was 8-13 with a 4.00 ERA during the regular season.

Gonzalez was a pedestrian 10-10, but that record was mostly attributable to a lack of run support. He will try to get a win over a San Francisco team that, prior to Game 3, had been an unstoppable force in the postseason, per ESPN Stats & Info:

John Breech of CBSSports.com brings up a fact that is certainly applicable to the Giants' failure to clinch in Game 3:

Hall of Fame pitcher Greg Maddux coached Gonzalez for Team USA in 2013, and the lefty feels he can apply some of that wisdom in his Game 4 start, per The Washington Post's James Wagner:

"

There's going to be some excitement. You get a double play, obviously there's going to be some emotion to that but it's also staying professional as much as possible. In my career and my time playing, I definitely want to stay as much composed and relaxed as possible. Picking up from other pitchers, that’s the beauty about being a pitcher on the side, watching other people's emotions and the way they go about it, the way they compete, and just staying low‑key and professional as much as possible.

"

As mentioned before, the onus is on San Francisco to take care of business. Washington should be able to play looser now that it knows it can claim victory on the road. Facing someone as calm and collected as Gonzalez will make the Giants' task to close out the Nationals all the more difficult.

Nationals prodigy Bryce Harper hit his second home run of the series Monday and seemed to be coming into his own. Harper joined some elite company in Game 3, per MLB:

Playing 162 games as the National League's best and then being so close to having it all end in abrupt fashion seemed to wake up Washington. The exceptional season the Nationals had, combined with the emergence of Harper and another young star in Anthony Rendon (.467 BA in NLDS), gives the team significant momentum.

The pitching edge and the precocious confidence Washington's less experienced studs have shown will create a carry-over effect in Game 4. Look for Gonzalez to pitch a gem, Harper and Rendon to lead the way with bats, and the Nationals to pull another one out in San Francisco.

Should the prediction come to fruition, Game 5 is likely to feature aging Giants pitcher Jake Peavy as the starter. No matter whom Washington deploys, that's a big advantage for the prospective hosts at Nationals Park.

What appeared to be a possible lost year suddenly looks promising for Washington despite still trailing 2-1. The proverbial ball is in San Francisco's court. The Giants will be hard-pressed to execute under the circumstances if their recent history and the Nats' newly found swagger are any indication.

Prediction: Nationals 6, Giants 2
