Liverpool Transfer News: Latest on Raheem Sterling, Youri Tielemans, More

Gianni VerschuerenOct 5, 2014

Liverpool's young squad underwent a lot of turnover during the summer transfer window, but as the team starts to gel and results begin to follow, Brendan Rodgers and his staff will turn their eyes toward January and another opportunity to strengthen what is already a promising group.

Raheem Sterling's strong start to the season has the vultures already circling, but it appears the club could be drawing closer to a permanent solution. Several exciting talents are also reportedly being eyed, so here's the latest buzz surrounding the Reds' transfer rumours.

French giants Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly ready to approach Sterling with an appealing wage package, according to The Independent's Paul Smith.

The 19-year-old is yet to come to an agreement with the club regarding a new long-term contract, and the current lack of progress has reportedly alerted Les Parisiens. Backed by a seemingly unlimited amount of cash, Smith knows PSG are willing to offer the England international a six-figures wage.

The Daily Mirror's Simon Mullock believes the Reds are willing to do the same thing, however:

"

Liverpool are ready to meet Raheem Sterling’s £100,000-a-week wage demands.

Brendan Rodgers had insisted that the England winger would have to be patient about tripling his current £35,000-a-week contract. The Kop boss had issued a warning about giving young players too much, too soon.

But there is now an acceptance inside Anfield that they must hand Sterling a deal to reflect his his exploding value in the transfer market and importance to the club.

With PSG and Real Madrid ready to move if the current talks prove fruitless, per Mullock, Liverpool have little choice but to give in to the youngster's demands.

"

Sterling is Liverpool's highest-rated player per WhoScored.com, and his creativity and attacking drive has been instrumental for the Reds so far during the 2014-15 season.

Apart from a disagreement over his wages, there has been nothing to suggest Sterling would be unhappy at Anfield. At this point in time, it still appears the talented midfielder will be with the Reds for the foreseeable future.

Youri Tielemans

Anderlecht's Youri Tielemans impressed mightily against Borussia Dortmund in their midweek Champions League meeting, and according to the Daily Mirror's Neil Moxley, Rodgers has his eyes set on the 17-year-old Belgian.

Liverpool are one of many clubs who have been watching his performances lately, per Moxley, with Borussia Dortmund's Jürgen Klopp a known admirer:

The defensive midfielder became the youngest Belgian to play in the Champions League during the 2013-14 season and improved greatly during the summer, serving as Anderlecht's primary ball-winner and passing outlet from the centre of the pitch.

Rodgers made a move for a similarly talented and raw player in Divock Origi during the summer, and the Belgian international is currently enjoying a fine season on loan with Lille.

Tielemans has a similar profile in the sense that he's too young and inexperienced to contribute on a Premier League level, but he also has the potential to become a class option in the near future. Anderlecht's Purple Talents program is renowned for its work with teenage stars, so a sign-plus-loan deal could be the perfect solution.

Tottenham are reportedly making a push to sign Southampton's Jay Rodriguez ahead of Liverpool and Manchester City, per Goal's Greg Stobart.

The 25-year-old forward is still recovering from a devastating injury that saw him miss out on the World Cup, but interest in his services remains high. If he can prove his fitness ahead of the January transfer window, the emergence of Graziano Pelle and Dusan Tadic could lead to him becoming available.

The link with former manager Mauricio Pochettino and the promise of an immediate spot in the starting XI gives Spurs an advantage over the likes of Liverpool, who addressed their attacking concerns by signing Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert during the summer.

Rodriguez's versatility (he can play in a wide role, as an attacking midfielder or in any of the striker slots) means he would still be an interesting target for the Reds, but following a lengthy absence, a summer move seems more likely than a January transfer.
