Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes Troll Manchester City for Empty Seats Against Roma
There were thousands of empty seats on Tuesday night as Manchester City took on AS Roma in the Champions League, and one former Manchester United player was not impressed.
Rio Ferdinand took to Twitter to question why so many people had stayed away from the game which had an attendance of just 37,509.
City have had a Premier League average attendance of 45,565 so far this season, although UEFA's advertising restrictions means the ground's capacity is reduced to 45,500 for European games.

"How many empty seats are there at the city vs Roma game by the way....big CL game & fans would rather Ramsays Kitchen or something at home🙈

The now QPR defender then wondered why City were planning to increase the capacity of their ground to 55,000.
"Expanding the stadium for what though?? For who though???

Another former Manchester United star, Paul Scholes, also criticised the crowd in his role as a pundit for ITV.
"At quarter past seven and there’s empty seats everywhere.
When you come here it just doesn’t have a European night feel to it. You go to Liverpool, you go to Old Trafford, you go to Chelsea, they have a special feeling for it.
Tonight I don’t think there is. I don’t think they realise what a big game this is. They’ve got the team, they’ve definitely got the players, the quality is definitely there, but do the crowd realise how lucky they are to be in this competition? I don’t think they do.
"
Manchester City's next home game in the Champions League is against CSKA Moscow on November 5.
