WWE Hell in a Cell 2014: Superstars Who Will Shine Under the PPV Spotlight

Tom ClarkSep 25, 2014

WWE Hell in a Cell is coming up on Sunday, October 26.  The event is the follow-up to the September 21 Night of Champions, which was perhaps much better than what many fans had anticipated.  This time around, the WWE faithful are likely hoping for more of the same.

As with every event that the company puts out to the masses, it is of course the Superstars themselves who either can either make or break the night.  While the booking must be right, each talent must work to ensure that his or her part of the card is as entertaining and on point as possible.  Hell in a Cell will be no different.

This particular pay-per-view may not be as heavily promoted or have the expectations that SummerSlam typically has, but it could very well be the sleeper of the year.  The reason for that has to do with the actual Cell matches themselves, which can provide some of the more dramatic moments of the night.

And that leads directly back to the WWE Superstars who can take their rivalries and attempt to contain them inside the hellish steel structure.  But which of those stars inside and outside of the Cell will shine the brightest on October 26?

Rusev

Rusev and Lana

Rusev took on the threat of Mark Henry at Night of Champions and was successful in putting The World's Strongest Man down.  Henry was just the latest challenger to come along seeking to put an end to Rusev's tyrannical reign.

Big E and Jack Swagger came before Henry, but neither man was able to even slow down the Bulgarian export.  Rusev is on a tear and at this point appears to be unstoppable.  When the monster Henry cannot even make an impact on his opponent, that is practically a guarantee that there are big things in store ahead.

And those big things could very well catch some serious fire at Hell in a Cell.

The reason for that is because when a talent like Rusev is allowed to steamroll through competition, it typically means that a championship belt is on the horizon for him.  In this case, it could be the United States title currently held by Sheamus.

A potential rivalry between these two men could basically start at any time, and if it does The Celtic Warrior could find himself without championship gold when it's all over.  In many ways, it would be the perfect move for Rusev.

All of Rusev and Lana's anti-American rhetoric over the past several months definitely just adds fuel to the fire and ups the heat he gets from the crowd.  Chants of "U-S-A" are heard through every arena whenever Rusev is in the ring and only seem to be growing with each passing week.

The United States title would solidify Rusev's place in the company and would likely be a great sign that he is headed for bigger and better things.  The heat he has now with fans would be amplified like never before if he won the U.S. belt, and beating a tough guy like Sheamus would only be a major win for his young WWE career.

Bray Wyatt

Bray Wyatt vs. Chris Jericho

Conspicuous by his absence at Night of Champions was The Eater of Worlds, Bray Wyatt.  The man who defeated Chris Jericho in a steel cage on the September 8 edition of Raw was not included on September 21, a situation that should be rectified at Hell in a Cell.

Bray is arguably one of the most entertaining figures in the company, and every time he's on camera he is perhaps the most captivating character on the program.  The work that he and his family have done since entering WWE has put them on a level apart from everyone else, and they are the last faction left standing.

The Shield and Evolution are both gone, but The Wyatt Family remains, and its leader deserves more than to sit idly by in the locker room while other Superstars get the opportunity to shine on the worldwide stage.

The question is: What will WWE do with Wyatt if he is indeed used at Hell in a Cell?  The answer to that may not be very clear right now, but the fact is that he has never held a championship.  What if he were to get involved in a feud with Dolph Ziggler for the intercontinental title?  Ziggler may finish with The Miz before Hell in a Cell takes place, and if he does Wyatt could be the next man to challenge for the gold.

Despite how he's used, the fact is that Wyatt should definitely be booked on October 26.  With Daniel Bryan and now Roman Reigns both on the shelf due to injury, the company has room for other talents to step up and shine.  Wyatt is one of those talents, and Hell in a Cell could be the next opportunity he has to show what he can do.

The amount of work that has been done with The Wyatt Family cannot go unnoticed, and their leader must now get a chance to get back some much-needed momentum.  Hell in a Cell could be the best night for that to happen.

Dean Ambrose

Ambrose vs. Rollins

Dean Ambrose made his much anticipated return to WWE at Night of Champions when he attacked former Shield teammate Seth Rollins.  The two men battled throughout the arena until The Authority broke up the melee, and when it was all over the crowd showed its love for Ambrose.

Of course, the heat between the two men began back on June 2.  That was the night Rollins betrayed both Ambrose and Reigns, dissolving The Shield with the whole world watching.  Since that time, The Lunatic Fringe has made it his mission to destroy Rollins and has done everything in his power to make it happen.

Hell in a Cell should certainly be a continuation of this.  And while the angle between them has pulled John Cena in, the fact is that Ambrose and Rollins deserve a one-on-one match with everything on the line, perhaps even Rollins' Money in the Bank briefcase.

And what better format to contain all of that rage than Hell in a Cell?

Rollins vs. Ambrose was made for the Cell.  It is the perfect vehicle for both men to show what they can do, to perform in front of a live crowd who want to see them.  It's also the best way possible for them to steal the show, which is exactly what they could do.

The fact is that WWE world heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar may or may not be booked at Hell in a Cell. And if he is not, then the most logical main event match for that card is Ambrose vs. Rollins in the Cell.

No championships are involved and truth be told, none are needed.  This one would be all about WWE's new generation of Superstars proving once again why they are fully capable of carrying the workload right now for the company.

The Cell could be a career defining moment for both Rollins and Ambrose and would certainly keep fans talking long after it's all over.
