What Could the Rockies Do To Bring Roy Halladay Home?
An All-Star, a Cy Young Award Winner, an Arvada West alum, and arguably the best baseball product ever out of Colorado, Roy Halladay is now up for grabs for whomever is willing to pay the right price.
It seems as if every team competing for the World Series has showed interest—especially the teams in need of an elite starting pitcher. One of the teams that falls under that category is the Colorado Rockies.
There are reports that the Rockies aren't interested in Halladay due to the monstrous demand in top prospects that Toronto is asking for in return for Halladay.

Reports say that in order for the Rockies even to be considered they must be willing to part with Ubaldo Jimenez, Ian Stewart, Dexter Fowler, and Jhoulys Chacin—quite a hefty asking price.
However, Toronto also wants to get rid of the contracts of Vernon Wells and Alex Rios—both were 20-plus home run hitters a few years ago. What if the Rockies offered two of those prospects along with Garrett Atkins and Seth Smith for, say, Vernon Wells and Roy Halladay?
Colorado would have roughly $18-20 million worth of salary coming in this year (not including the loss of Atkins' salary), but would also have the best pitcher in the world and a starting outfielder capable of 30 home runs to put behind Brad Hawpe in the lineup.
The Rockies could offer Jhoulys Chacin, Ubaldo Jiminez, Garrett Atkins, and Seth Smith in return for Wells and Halladay.
A batting lineup would look like this: Fowler, Barmes, Helton, Hawpe, Wells, Tulowitzki, Stewart, Ianetta, Halladay.
The rotation would consist of Halladay and Marquis—two of the top five pitchers in baseball with wins thus far, followed by Cook. In the playoffs, teams only need three starters anyway.
With that lineup and that pitching rotation, Colorado could look very scary and quite possibly beat every team in a seven-game series including the Boston Red Sox—who lost to Halladay yesterday and said, "We couldn't touch him."
The team that beat the Rockies in 2007 just said they couldn't touch Halladay, so why not go out and get him? It's hard to give up young talent like Jimenez, Chacin, and Smith, but it's not every day you get a chance to land a future Hall of Famer.
Colorado should pursue a trade to land Halladay even if it means the "business like" Monforts have to break the bank. I can guarantee if they break the bank for this trade they will earn a pretty penny after celebrating the 2009 World Series.
