Ramon Sessions to Kings: Latest Contract Details, Reaction and More
Needing to find more depth and production at both guard positions after losing Isaiah Thomas earlier this summer, the Sacramento Kings have reportedly agreed to a deal with free agent Ramon Sessions.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, Sessions' agreement with the Kings is for two years and $4.2 million:
The 28-year-old Sessions was rumored to be a target of the Houston Rockets, who also needed additional guard help after trading Jeremy Lin to Los Angeles. Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders reported the Rockets were exploring a sign-and-trade with Milwaukee in August:
However, that deal fell apart leaving Sessions in a lurch until finding a deal with the Kings. Even though the Kings are still trying to build a winning culture, the veteran guard is in a good spot to maximize his talents and get playing time, according to Sam Amick of USA Today:
Kings head coach Mike Malone has a knack for getting the best out of his guards. Last year, for instance, Thomas' production exploded under the first-year head coach. He set career highs in points (20.3), assists (6.3) and rebounds (2.9) per game, as well as field goal percentage (.453).
Thomas parlayed that success into a $27 million deal over four years in a sign-and-trade between the Kings and Phoenix Suns. Sessions may not have that kind of upside at this point in his career, but he's going to a situation with the right coach and system that will allow him to succeed.
