Michigan Football Recruiting: Latest Updates on 2015 Commits, Visits and Targets

Adam BiggersSep 19, 2014

Brady Hoke’s winning ways on the recruiting trails consistently pumps out highly touted classes. The next one, the well-rounded 2015 haul with 11 members thus far, should favorably compare to any assembly Hoke’s brought to Ann Arbor.

And considering his past, that’s saying a lot.

From top to bottom, Hoke’s scored big at nearly every position, from Alex Malzone, one of the best quarterbacks in the nation, to Mike Weber, one of the country’s elite running backs. He also stocked the secondary with 4-star defensive backs Tyree Kinnel (S) and Garrett Taylor (CB).

More pledges are on the way, but for now, let’s take the time to regroup and rehash the who, what, when, where and why that’s shaping Team 136's new collection.

And we’ll do it slideshow-style.

All recruiting information has been provided by 247Sports, unless otherwise noted.

Chris Clark to Visit Elsewhere? What About Tyree Kinnel and Darian Roseboro?

1 of 5

Earlier this month, Michigan fans heard news that they didn't want to hear: 4-star tight end Chris Clark may want to visit other schools. Of course, that thought then set off a wave of speculation.

Would he decommit? Would he be another George Campbell or Damian Harris?

So far, it doesn't sound that way. However, the 6'4", 247-pounder visited North Carolina on June 21, just two days after committing to Michigan, which was after he decommitted from North Carolina.

Clark's status is worth following. The Wolverines can't afford to let another superior recruit get away.

"

Did #NotreDame ever end up checking in on #UM TE commit Chris Clark? Which 2015 prospect committed elsewhere should receive a visit today?

— Irish Sports Daily (@ISDUpdate) September 19, 2014"

And speaking of statuses, it's probably worth keeping tabs on Tyree Kinnel, who was recently offered by Notre Dame. He's maintained his promise to the Wolverines, so it's unlikely that he'll jump ship. But things have happened with others, so again, he's worth tracking.

"

#Michigan commit Tyree Kinnel on #Irish offer: "I'm solid (to #Wolverines)". Will visit for #Minnesota or #PennState game going forward.

Also, Darian Roseboro was contacted by Alabama. But he's maize and blue, he says.

"

#Bama called tonight RT @DarianRoseboro Strong with my commitment

For what it's worth, Tyrone Wheatley, Jr. and Marcus Lewis are said to have "warmer" interest in Michigan, too. Wheatley is a 6'6", 260-pound 4-star tight end, so he'd probably lessen the blow should Clark split the scene.

Lewis is a 6'1", 187-pound 4-star corner/receiver, and he would be a welcome addition to the secondary, regardless of whether Kinnel has thoughts of looking elsewhere.

Garrett Taylor Suffers ACL Injury, out for Senior Season

2 of 5

This is the type of update no one likes to write: Due to an ACL injury in late August, Garrett Taylor will miss his senior year of football. The 4-star corner out of St. Christopher's in Richmond is the No. 101-ranked prospect of 2015.

"

Confirmed that Garrett Taylor suffered a torn ACL and will miss his 2014 season. Surgery on Thursday: http://t.co/N4fVuPjt5h

— Steve Lorenz (@TremendousUM) August 26, 2014"

He may be injured, but he still has a lot of football in his future. It's a setback, sure. But not one that'll be impossible for the 6'1", 190-pound versatile threat to overcome.

What's the Deal with Keisean Lucier-South?

3 of 5

Keisean Lucier-South is one of the best pass-rushers in all of high school football. He could probably hang with a few college guys, too.

With that said, Michigan needs to keep him in reach. Oklahoma's creeping into the picture, and the 6'5", 225-pound defensive end's been the apple of UCLA's eye for some time. According to 247Sports, he also has "warm" interest in Oregon.

Lucier-South is the No. 2-ranked WDE of 2015 and comes in at No. 22 nationally. The 5-star prodigy has a visit scheduled to Michigan for Oct. 10, per 247Sports.

Can Michigan Get Osa Masina?

4 of 5

Osa Masina can play linebacker and running back, making him a two-in-one that just about any coach would like to have on his team.

The Wolverines like him for his defensive skills, but the 6'4", 230-pounder out of Salt Lake City Brighton could help fill needs in the backfield if asked to do so. That would probably depend on if Michigan gets Jacques Patrick, a Floridian super prep, to join the next class.

Utah appears to be one of the front-runners for Masina, who could be influenced by this Saturday's game between the Utes and Wolverines. It could give him an idea where each program is headed. Or, it could mean nothing at all to the 4-star who's "warm" for Wisconsin, Arizona State, USC and UCLA, per 247Sports.

He visited (UO) Michigan on July 27, 2013.

Brian Cole Gets Unsportsmanlike

5 of 5

Brian Cole is one of highest-profile recruits in the Midwest and is known for playing with fiery passion.

However, he'll need to learn to keep a cooler head once he gets to college. Prep temper tantrums don't often fly with big-time Division I coaches.

He's not the only athlete to ever lose it, and he won't be the last, but he's had two unsportsmanlike penalties this year alone. That's not a great sign, nor is it positive for the 2015 class. Cole, a senior do-all at Saginaw Heritage, was handed a one-game suspension for his miscue during his team's 56-6 loss to Midland Dow.

The 6'2", 190-pound senior is the No. 5-ranked ATH in the nation, says 247Sports.
