Match of the Night: Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins
While Lesnar and Cena are stealing all the headlines, the most intriguing match for hardcore wrestling fans will be the battle between former friends and Shield members Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins.
The two men met in a one-on-one match last Monday on Raw that should never have happened, but the stage is now set for the biggest swerve of the PPV. Dean Ambrose should return at the event and set up a Triple Threat match at Hell in a Cell.
The animosity among these three men began when Rollins turned his back on the group and beat down Ambrose and Reigns with a steel chair. The Authority’s hand-chosen prospect then went on to win the Money in the Bank contract and has been Triple H and Stephanie McMahon’s ace in the hole ever since.
Rollins went on to put Ambrose out of action by stomping his head through cinder blocks; he tried to do the same to Reigns but was unsuccessful. Now, Rollins and Reigns go head-to-head at Sunday’s PPV. Ambrose hasn’t been heard from since the attack by Rollins, and Night of Champions would be the perfect opportunity to strike back.
With WWE spoiling Reigns vs. Ambrose on Raw with a clean finish, the PPV match could be interrupted by a deranged Ambrose, giving Rollins the unintentional win. Reigns would likely be upset that he wasn’t able to beat Rollins, and the rift between Ambrose and Reigns could begin.
This would lay the groundwork for the Triple Threat match.
Hardcore wrestling fans have been clamoring for Rollins, Reigns and Ambrose to participate in a winner-take-all match since The Shield broke up. With Night of Champions needing another huge moment in addition to Lesnar vs. Cena, bringing back Ambrose and teasing tension with Reigns would make this card unforgettable.
Add in Rollins somehow still sneaking out the win and remaining one of the top heels in this scenario, and this is the perfect way to book the outcome of this match. Regardless of how it shakes out, it will be good to finally have the always entertaining Ambrose back on TV.
Predicted Winner: Seth Rollins via Disqualification
