Cesaro Must Beat Sheamus at Night of Champions for Good of Both Men
With the WWE somewhat limping toward its upcoming Night of Champions pay-per-view, the company's pair of midcard championships have again been neglected when it really matters.
With Brock Lesnar and John Cena working what is essentially a part-time rivalry for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, this should have been the time for the middle of the card to get a real chance.
Each and every time there is a new intercontinental or United States champion crowned, hope springs eternal that the middle of the roster will find a new lease on life. But as we so often find out, limp booking and poor storylines make every championship reign incredibly subdued.

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
However, with the right result at Night of Champions, perhaps the United States Championship could finally get a shot in the arm. Sheamus and Cesaro have been given pretty limited TV time in the buildup to their match at Night of Champions, but it is a match that promises quite a bit in the way of excitement.
Take Cesaro, for example. There will always be a sense of injustice among WWE fans until he is finally given the push may believe he deserves. The sky literally seemed like the limit at WrestleMania XXX, with a face turn looking likely as the WWE bowed to fan pressure.
Despite that, though, it plugged away by keeping him heel, and the disastrous results of that decision are still being felt to this day. Night of Champions represents an important moment for his career, though, because a win here could kick-start that push all over again.
Naturally, the face turn would still have to happen somewhere down the line for him to totally succeed. And unless the WWE initiates an infamous double turn at Night of Champions, that won't be happening here. Still, with some savvy booking in the coming months, Cesaro could get back on track this Sunday.
And then there is Sheamus. Despite him splitting the majority of wrestling fans in terms of whether he can make a triumphant return to the main event scene, you just get the feeling he's not being used properly here.
Dropping the belt here would not only benefit his opponent but would also have a positive impact on the Irishman, too. There's a number of feuds he could engage in were he to drop the championship, perhaps most notably against someone like Bray Wyatt.
If the WWE's long-term plans are to keep Sheamus babyface (given how he's pretty over with a particular group of fans), then a feud against The Wyatt Family could be a shrewd move. Wyatt himself is struggling for momentum of late, so giving the duo (who are still very much part of the WWE's long-term future) significant TV time would make for smart booking.
Sometimes in professional wrestling there are decisions that are tough to make, especially when it comes to championships. For Sheamus and Cesaro, though, the most logical result here would be the latter scoring a win. It would do both their careers a world of good.
