Mayweather vs. Maidana 2 Replay: When and How to Relive Incredible Fight
In a highly anticipated rematch on Saturday night, Floyd Mayweather once again came out on top with a unanimous decision over Marcos Rene Maidana.
When these two battled the first time, Maidana appeared to be as close to beating Mayweather as anyone in recent history. He lost by majority decision, but at least one judge believed it to be a draw.
Things were not as close this time around, as Mayweather easily secured the decision to add another win to his flawless record. Showtime Sports provides a look at the score of the match:
This bout was Mayweather doing what he does best, utilizing great defense while coming through when needed to impress the judges. For those who want to relive the exciting matchup, here is what you need to know.
What: Mayweather vs. Maidana II Replay
When: Saturday, September 20
Time: 9 p.m. ET
Watch: Showtime
Live Stream: Showtime Anytime

This fight hardly resembled the first time these two boxers met, when Maidana was extremely aggressive while landing tons of punches on the champion. He succeeded with a relentless approach while keeping his opponent from getting too many opportunities.
That did not happen this time around, which you can see from the CompuBox stats, via LaceUp Boxing:
Maidana threw fewer punches in this bout, although he still could only land 22 percent overall. Meanwhile, Mayweather continued to bounce around and avoid taking any big shots, especially after he knew he had the advantage late.
At the same time, Mayweather utilized a strategy that has helped him in the past 47 fights. He waited patiently for his opportunity to strike and came through with a 58 percent success rate on power punches. This caused enough damage to impress the judges and give him the win.
After the match, Mayweather explained his strategy and assessed his performance, via Dan Rafael of ESPN.com:
"I think the difference was I didn't stay on the ropes and I did a lot of movement and turning. He's a tough competitor. I do have some bumps and bruises but I listened to my dad [trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr.], who always says hit and don't get hit and that's how you last in this sport.
I felt sharper in the first fight. My rhythm was a little off. I gave myself a C, C-minus. I thought I could have done a lot better. I got hit with some shots I shouldn't have.
"
Despite his harsh grading, Mayweather did what he needed to do to secure the win, whether it pleased fans or not.
Steve Kim of UCN Live believed this was a very one-sided affair:
However, the undefeated boxer is at the point where all he needs to do is earn wins. He does that with his conservative approach while remaining as technically sound as possible. He makes few mistakes and gives opponents very little chance to cause damage.
Although he went away from that game plan a bit in the first contest against Maidana, he was excellent in the rematch to secure an easy victory.

Maidana should be proud to get two matches against Mayweather and a big boost in popularity, but it is clear he is not really in the same class as the pound-for-pound champion.
The question now is what Mayweather will do next. Obviously, the whispers about a potential matchup against Manny Pacquiao will not go away, especially with people like ESPN's Skip Bayless taunting him along the way:
Kurt Badenhausen of Forbes discusses the recent holdup in the potential fight:
"Mayweather remains the main hurdle to the mega-fight and has dismissed the idea in recent years, despite the fact that a Pacquiao bout could potentially net Mayweather a record payday of $100 million. The fight could generate $300 million in revenue and Mayweather has no interest in doing anything to put money in the pocket of [Bob] Arum, who he had a nasty split with in 2006.
"
Fans might be left disappointed hoping for this huge fight, as it still seems unlikely to take place. Still, we can always dream about the two veterans working things out.
Either way, chances are running out to see Mayweather before he laces up for the last time. Fights like the one against Maidana showcased exactly what he is capable of as one of the best athletes of his generation. Make sure to watch him as much as you can before he eventually calls it quits.
