Floyd Mayweather Comments on Marcos Maidana Bite, Potential Manny Pacquiao Fight

Matt FitzgeraldSep 13, 2014

Floyd Mayweather Jr. was already looking toward what lies on the horizon following Saturday's unanimous decision victory over Marcos Maidana at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Mayweather, 37, has yet to take on Pacquiao despite so many fans, promoters and boxing enthusiasts advocating for the dream bout to transpire. FightNight.com documented what Mayweather had to say Saturday:

Nearing the end of his career, it appears "Money" may indeed tangle with Pac-Man in one of his two remaining fights before retirement.

Earlier in the week, Mayweather announced he'd be retiring following his prospective September 2015 bout. There have been past teases about a Mayweather-Pacquiao showdown and it has never materialized, so it's wise to take what Mayweather said with a grain of salt.

Skip Bayless of ESPN has even accused Mayweather of intentionally avoiding Pac-Man:

With regard to the most bizarre moment that transpired in Saturday's fight versus Maidana, Mayweather also addressed the bite "El Chino" inflicted on the eventual victor, per Showtime Sports:

Maidana denied doing such a thing:

Replay seemed to show that Mayweather was indeed bitten, but he managed to fight through the apparent numbness that came with it to get the win.

Some critics won't relent until Mayweather enters the ring with Pacquiao. What's certain is that Mayweather would earn a lot of respect for taking on perhaps the toughest test of his career, factoring in age and how formidable Pacquiao is.

Maidana will have a hard time drawing top billing after failing to learn much from his first tangle with Mayweather, barely changing strategy and getting beaten worse than the previous time. Where else can one really go after taking on Mayweather twice within several months?

While El Chino's future is a little bit more uncertain, there is no doubt as to who the majority of Sweet Science fans want to see Mayweather take on next.
