WWE SmackDown Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from September 12

Erik BeastonSep 13, 2014

Roman Reigns arrived at SmackDown looking to avenge a three-on-one beatdown that left him lying this past Monday night on Raw. He would have his opportunity to do so, as he teamed with Chris Jericho to meet Randy Orton and Seth Rollins in Friday night's main event.

Jericho was looking for revenge as well following a backstage assault by Orton that further injured his knee. Would Y2J be able to end The Viper's week on a sour note, or would Orton expedite Jericho's latest departure from WWE by putting him out of action permanently?

Goldust and Stardust looked to continue their tormenting of WWE Tag Team champions The Usos, as they partnered with Luke Harper and Erick Rowan of the Wyatt  Family to meet Jimmy, Jey, Big Show and Mark Henry in a huge eight-man tag team match.

Would the bizarre brothers succeed in further legitimizing their threat to the tag titles, or would The Usos get a measure of revenge on their top contenders just over one week from their huge defense at Night of Champions?

Which of the aforementioned stars, among others, would emerge from the September 12 episode of SmackDown as winners? The losers?

All of the answers to those questions would be provided when WWE hit the SyFy airwaves Friday night. Relive this week's broadcast with a look back at the biggest winners, losers and moments from another eventful episode of SmackDown!

Winner: Chris Jericho

To say that Chris Jericho's win-loss record since returning to WWE in June has been less than sparkling would be an understatement. He has lost more than he has won and has become somewhat of an afterthought, despite his status as one of the best wrestlers of his, or any, generation.

Monday night was the start of a program with Randy Orton, and Friday night on SmackDown, WWE Creative continued to plant the seeds for a match between the two former heavyweight champions when Jericho scored a huge pinfall victory over The Viper in the night's marquee bout.

Jericho may be on his way back out of WWE, but at least he will exit on a positive note, feuding with one of the biggest stars of the last decade.

Losers: Goldust and Stardust

After having some much-needed edginess injected into their act and undergoing a well-timed heel turn, Goldust and Stardust looked to be riding a tidal wave of momentum into their upcoming WWE Tag Team Championship match against The Usos at Night of Champions.

Friday night, they suffered a loss that threatens to curb some of said momentum.

Their loss in the night's eight-man tag bout was somewhat of a surprise considering the fact that Luke Harper and Erick Rowan were also involved in the contest. So poorly protected have Harper and Rowan been in recent weeks that it is a wonder that WWE Creative opted to have Stardust take the pinfall in the match rather than one of the two behemoths.

With a whole week of WWE programming leading into Night of Champions next Sunday night, there is plenty of time to help rehabilitate the team.

Even though the brothers should have never lost in the first place.

Winner: Rusev

After being consistently one-upped by Mark Henry since the night after SummerSlam, Rusev got the last laugh Friday night, capitalizing on interference from Lana and a handful of bodybuilder chalk to level Henry with a big sidekick and leave the World's Strongest Man lying.

Rusev needed that bit of offense in order to prove that his rivalry with Henry will not continue to be quite as one-sided as it has appeared thus far. Fans needed to be reminded of Rusev's ability to destroy any and all Superstars put in his path, regardless of whether they are the World's Strongest Man or not.

It worked and, more importantly, put over what an asset Lana can be outside of garnering heat for the act with her outstanding promo work.

Loser: Bray Wyatt

After defeating Chris Jericho in an outstanding Steel Cage match Monday night on Raw, Bray Wyatt followed up his tremendous performance by...guiding Rowan and Harper to the ring for the night's opening contest.

That's it. No promo. No interference. Nothing.

Why WWE Creative had Wyatt in the building and chose to do absolutely nothing with him when he was coming off his most important victory in months is a mystery only the writers can solve, though the answer is sure to be: "We just didn't have anything for him."
