Overview
Scotland bounced back strongly against Ireland in their second ODI on Wednesday, but they still lost by three wickets in the end.
The biggest positive for the Scots was the unbeaten ton from Richie Berrington. While the rest of the top and middle order left much to be desired, Berrington impressed with the bat. Josh Davey also chipped in with 40 off 69, but Scotland could not bat out their innings.
Max Sorensen picked up four wickets while Craig Young collected three as Scotland were all out for 221 after batting first. Much like in the first ODI, Ireland's chase had some stutters. However, with 67 off 65, it was Kevin O'Brien who once again led from the front.
With just one match left, Ireland will want to make sure they complete a clean sweep before the teams head to Australia for some more World Cup prep. Scotland, meanwhile, will be desperate for some sort of consolation after struggling for much of the series.
Ireland certainly hold the advantage and there has been much support for the team as they continue to grow stronger. A clean sweep will stand them in good stead as World Cup prep kicks into high gear.
Key players
Ireland
While Ireland would do well to not become overreliant on Kevin O'Brien, he has been one of the stars of the show. His ability with the bat is head and shoulders above his teammates, and he is an invaluable asset for the hosts.
Scotland
Scotland have struggled in all departments, but Josh Davey has had a good time with the ball. He has three wickets in his two matches and has managed to keep his economy rate in check. He is one of just two Scottish bowlers—the other being Alasdair Evans—with an economy rate of under 4.00.
