WWE Night of Champions 2014: Bold Predictions for Massive Showcase

The Doctor Chris MuellerSep 10, 2014

WWE Night of Champions on September 21 is the one event each year where we are guaranteed to see every title in the company be defended. With all five championships on the line, we are much more likely to see at least one title change hands.

This year's event has a lot of great matches set to take place, but the biggest story from this pay-per-view will be the outcome of the John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar contest.

This is the first time Lesnar will be defending the WWE World Heavyweight Championship after winning the title from Cena last month at SummerSlam. While any event featuring Lesnar tends to be a big deal, this isn't the only match people care about.

We are also set to see Roman Reigns finally get his hands on Seth Rollins. Sheamus and Dolph Ziggler will defend their titles, and Paige will put up her Divas Championship against two challengers. In addition, two sets of brothers will clash over the tag titles.

This slideshow will go through all the storylines heading into the event and make some predictions about how things will unfold at Night of Champions.

Brie Bella Will Cost Nikki Bella the Divas Title

1 of 8

Nikki Bella was granted a Divas title match by Stephanie McMahon following Nikki's betrayal of her own sister at SummerSlam. With AJ still wanting her guaranteed rematch against Paige, this turned into a Triple Threat match.

The biggest shocker is that Brie Bella is not involved in any way. With the way the Bellas have been booked as sisters-turned-rivals, most expected some kind of match between the sisters to take place.

WWE obviously sees some longevity to this storyline, which is why we will likely have to wait until Hell in a Cell to see them have a showdown.

However, this doesn't mean Brie won't be involved. Nikki Cost Brie her match against Stephanie at SummerSlam, which means the chances of Brie costing Nikki this match are very good.

WWE Superstars tend to operate under the policy of "an eye for an eye." Brie is no longer looking for a resolution. She's going to be looking for revenge.

New Tag Team Champions

2 of 8

Gold and Stardust have been on a strange ride ever since Cody Rhodes decided to emulate his brother with his own version of the strangest character in WWE history.

The Usos have been great champions, defending their titles against several different teams over the course of their title reign, but they have found their match in the Dust brothers.

Jey Uso was injured at the hands of Stardust and Goldust recently, making him much more vulnerable. Despite The Usos being very talented, it looks like a different set of siblings will get a chance to carry the torch for a little while.

This won't be the end of this feud. We will see at least one more PPV match between them, but the next time they face off, The Usos will be the challengers.

Out of all the titles on the line at Night of Champions, this seems like the only one that is almost certainly going to change hands.

Randy Orton Will Take out Chris Jericho

3 of 8

Following Randy Orton's surprise attack on Chris Jericho this past Monday, it was announced that the two would face off at Night of Champions.

This might seem like a random match thrown together at the last minute, but it will not be just a standard singles bout. This is going to be a massacre.

With Orton trying to prove himself after losing to Roman Reigns, he will look to make a big impact. Putting Jericho on the shelf is a great way to accomplish that.

It's no secret that Jericho won't be around much longer. He tends to only show up for a few months at a time these days, and his time is coming due.

The best way to make Orton look dangerous and give Jericho a reason to leave is having Orton decimate him at the PPV. A simple win won't suffice. Orton is probably going to punt kick Jericho's head off.

The Return of Dean Ambrose

4 of 8

With Seth Rollins set to take on Roman Reigns, there is no better time to bring back Dean Ambrose after a monthlong absence.

Ambrose was Curb Stomped into some cinder blocks by Rollins last month so he had an excuse to go off and film a WWE Studios movie.

The Lunatic Fringe refused medical attention to both further the storyline and make him look like he has no regard for his own safety. After a month in hiding, it seems like the perfect time for Ambrose to return and get some retribution.

Not only will Reigns pick up another win to add to his already impressive resume, but you can expect Ambrose to be a big part of the way the match ends.

Switzerland Will Defeat Ireland

5 of 8

Switzerland is known for being a neutral country when it comes to war, making the country part of a running joke that goes back decades. Even though the Swiss' neutrality is referenced in the name of his finisher, Cesaro is not one to back down from a fight.

You know who else never backs down from a brawl? Sheamus, that's who. These two Europeans are known for their hard-hitting style and great skill in the ring.

Both men possess incredible power, but it's Cesaro who has shown the most versatility. Every time we think we have this guy pegged, he pulls another trick out of his bottomless bag to surprise us.

Sheamus is a popular star, but his reign as U.S. champion has been mostly uneventful. It's time for someone else to attempt to bring some glory back to the mid-card title, and Cesaro is the perfect person to do it.

This will be one of the more physical encounters of the evening, and Cesaro is going to be the one who walks out with the gold.

Rusev Will Crush Another Powerhouse

6 of 8

Rusev is being groomed to be the next great foreign heel, and he has done a pretty good job in the role thus far. He has remained dominant since his debut, only suffering a defeat by disqualification.

Rusev will face his biggest challenge to date at Night of Champions when he takes on Mark Henry. The World's Strongest Man will give Rusev a huge obstacle to overcome, which will make it that much more impressive when he wins.

Jack Swagger was built up as a credible opponent for the Bulgarian Brute, but he wasn't able to overcome the challenge.

Henry's power puts him in a class all by himself, but that doesn't mean he is unbeatable. In fact, we have seen Henry defeated by countless Superstars over the years.

Here is where things get tricky. Rusev may end up winning the match, but he might not do it alone. We are about due for Big Show's annual heel turn, and Henry may end up being on the receiving end of a KO Punch.

There hasn't been any indication that Big Show will turn on Henry, which will make it that much more surprising when it happens.

Dolph Ziggler Doesn't Need a Stunt Double

7 of 8

The feud between Dolph Ziggler and The Miz has been interesting, to say the least. Ziggler won the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam, and Miz has been trying to get it back ever since.

Damien Sandow has been employed as Miz's stunt double in recent weeks, helping Miz in his matches and even going as far as to take his place.

While Sandow fans are unhappy that he is being used as a comedic sidekick, it's certainly the most exposure he's had in months.

The IC title rematch set to take place between Miz and Ziggler is one of the harder matches to predict. Some might say that Ziggler losing the title after only a month is unlikely, but that is exactly what happened to Miz.

While it could go either way, Ziggler will probably retain.

Brock Lesnar Will Destroy Cena...Again

8 of 8

Outside of Diesel defeating Bob Backlund in eight seconds to win the WWE title, Brock Lesnar's win over John Cena at SummerSlam was one of the most dominant performances we have ever seen lead to a title change.

It was barely even a match. Lesnar beat Cena in such a definitive way that it seems very unlikely that the outcome will be any different this time around.

Cena has been booked to look like a man on a mission ever since his loss, but that is how he always looks after losing a title. WWE has to make Cena seem confident in order to make it look possible for him to win the belt back.

Cena won't lose as easily as he did last month, but he will definitely lose. It just wouldn't make sense for WWE to have Lesnar win so definitively just to have him give the title back at the next PPV.

It almost seems too predictable that Cena will be defeated again, but nobody can blame WWE for making Lesnar into the monster he has become. The bigger the WWE builds him up, the better it will be when someone finally takes him down.

These predictions are all based on how WWE has booked all the feuds heading into the PPV, but the logic behind WWE's booking isn't always easy to follow, which makes it hard to predict certain outcomes.

What do you see happening at this year's Night of Champions?
