Paul Heyman Is the Last Best Effort at Turning John Cena Heel
Paul Heyman will lead Brock Lesnar to face John Cena at WWE's Night of Champions on Sunday, September 21. The match is for Lesnar's WWE World Heavyweight Championship and is the second of their series, with the first coming at SummerSlam
And while this storyline has likely gone just as many fans believed it would, a new twist was recently added on Monday Night Raw. That twist has to do with the fact that Heyman is the last best effort at turning Cena heel.
It's a conversation that many fans have surely had for years. That conversation has to do with Cena's seemingly permanent portrayal as WWE's top protagonist. From his work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to his constant placement as an underdog despite his championship pedigree, Cena is obviously used as the company's primary babyface.

And that fact has infuriated many WWE fans more than anyone probably ever thought possible.
The truth is that Cena has his haters, and he likely always will. For those fans, there is no real reason to support WWE's top guy as there is nothing real about him at all. Cena is perhaps believed to be phony; a man that appears to be the genuine article, yet he could just be playing a character.

To believe that any man could be that accepting of so much rejection without turning heel is just too much of a stretch for some fans.
And that sentiment is apparently shared by Heyman, who made his feelings known on the September 8 edition of Raw. Heyman cut a promo in the ring and was eventually interrupted by Cena, who decided to confront Lesnar's advocate with the whole world watching.
But he, perhaps, got more than he bargained for.
Heyman may be Lesnar's advocate, but he played the role of devil's advocate to Cena. Heyman questioned Cena's unseen resentment toward the fans that hate him. He also questioned why Cena would not simply just turn on them at some point.
Heyman even suggested that he could help Cena tell the crowd to shut up so he could finally give in to his hatred for them.
The man that many call the evil genius proved to be that and much more as he shared the ring with WWE's top Superstar and made for some very compelling television. Heyman tempted Cena with the proverbial apple, and he begged him to take a bite.
Fans listened and waited; it was just too good to miss.
Heyman really shined in the spot and argued his points extremely well. It was likely the same argument that so many fans had made in the past but this time, it came from a man of high stature. Heyman has been on the inside of WWE for a very long time and has managed some of the industry's top megastars like Kurt Angle and CM Punk.
So when he speaks, many WWE Superstars listen.
Heyman's views are respected and in terms of his character, those views point to Cena turning heel in the very near future. What fans saw on Raw that night was probably just the beginning of what could be more such promos to come.
Heyman has opened the door for Cena, and all Cena has to do is walk through it.
The truth is if anyone can facilitate such a massive change, it's Heyman. Cena's resolve seems solid now but if Lesnar's advocate continues to push his buttons, then fans could perhaps see the unthinkable finally go down on WWE programming.
Heyman is the last best effort to turn Cena heel because he does not surrender easily. He will surely keep pushing Cena, taunting him with the constant hate he receives from the WWE faithful. With a smile on his face and the devil in his eyes, Heyman could keep pressuring Cena until he snaps.
Heyman is given credit for orchestrating Punk's modern record of 434 days as WWE champion. He is also credited for bringing Lesnar into the fold 14 years ago and for leading The Beast Incarnate over The Undertaker at WrestleMania 30. Considering all of this, it's not out of the realm of possibility that Heyman could be capable of leading Cena down the path to the dark side.
It's a moment that many fans believe will not happen, and they very well could be right. But for Heyman, it's just another day at the office, another day of pushing the right buttons to get what he wants. And if he wants Cena to finally give in to his hate, then some fans believe he can do just that.
After all, they do not call him the evil genius for nothing.
