WWE Raw Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from September 8

Erik BeastonSep 9, 2014

World Wrestling Entertainment continued its journey to Night of Champions with an episode of Raw headlined by two huge pay-per-view rematches and the return of talk show icon Jerry Springer.

Chris Jericho and Bray Wyatt made up for their previous bouts, which left most fans underwhelmed, with an extraordinary Steel Cage match to kick off this week's show. It was the first time since returning back in June that Jericho looked like the Y2J of old, and Wyatt looked motivated to have a show-stealing match.

The main event of the show featured Randy Orton attempting to avenge his loss to Roman Reigns at SummerSlam by squaring off with the former powerhouse of The Shield. Unfortunately, interference from Kane and Seth Rollins would negate what was a fairly strong match between the two.

John Cena and Paul Heyman engaged in a compelling promo. The Bella Twins...not so much.

WWE turned in a show that was, at times, one of the best in recent memory while simultaneously featuring one of the worst segments in the 20-plus-year history of the program.

Who emerged from the incredibly interesting show as a winner or loser?

Let's take a look.

Winner: Randy Orton

There is no WWE Superstar who has suffered through miserable booking to the extent that Randy Orton has over the last year. He has been portrayed as the lapdog of The Authority, has constantly needed the help of his cohorts to win matches and was one of the weakest champions in recent history.

Then came the feud with Roman Reigns, and he began to recover. He rediscovered his inner Viper prior to SummerSlam and turned in a strong performance despite losing at the August 17 event.

Monday night, he regained even more edge, joining Seth Rollins and Kane in a beatdown of Reigns to close out of the show.

It was a key moment in the re-education of fans regarding Orton that will fuel the blowoff to the program with Reigns at Night of Champions (if that is the course of action WWE Creative takes).

Losers: The Bella Twins and WWE Creative

Whoever was in charge of booking the segment involving the Bella Twins and Jerry Springer on Monday night's show should be fired and blackballed from ever writing television, film, books or even op-ed articles ever again.

For a show that has featured some truly idotic gimmicks, characters and storylines, included but not limited to T.L. Hopper, The Goon, Mae Young giving birth to a hand and the entire Katie Vick fiasco, Monday night's stupidity may have ranked as the worst segment in WWE history.

It was so poorly acted, executed and conceived that it is a wonder no one tried to stop it from airing.

The Bella Twins' feud suffered irreparable damage, jumping the shark in a manner even more ludicrous and mind-numbingly idiotic than Arthur Fonzarelli...who literally jumped a shark on Happy Days.

The feud is officially dead, and the blowoff match between the sisters cannot come soon enough.

Winner: Bray Wyatt

The feud between Bray Wyatt and Chris Jericho was disappointing from every possible angle. The matches were underwhelming, the story undefined and the promo work somewhat boring. There was no edge and no reason, and the entire ordeal suffered as a result.

Wyatt and Jericho made up for the disappointing results of their recent work with a stellar Steel Cage match to kick off Monday's show.

After damaging Jericho's knee, leaving him sprawled on the ground and winning the match, Wyatt managed to regain a large amount of the momentum lost following the defeat at the hands of John Cena at June's Payback pay-per-view.

With the Jericho feud now behind him and some buzz surrounding his performance Monday night, hopefully the Eater of Worlds can parlay it into a renewed push.

Losers: Seth Rollins and Sheamus

It is not often that Mr. Money in the Bank and "disappointing" are mentioned in the same sentence, but Rollins' match with Sheamus was just that.

As two of the more consistently great workers in the business, their match Monday night was marred by interference from Cesaro, who will meet the Celtic Warrior for the United States Championship at Night of Champions.

As a result, fans were robbed of what could have been an outstanding match had the Superstars been left to deliver the match they are capable of.

Instead, their talents were wasted on a match whose purpose was to add heat to a feud between Sheamus and Cesaro that could not be any colder coming intoand out ofMonday's broadcast.
