WWE NXT Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from September 4

Erik BeastonSep 5, 2014

Thursday night was the final tuneup on the road to Takeover II, and fans were treated to some last-minute hype for that show's headline bouts, most notably the Fatal 4-Way match for the NXT Championship.

Adrian Neville, Tyler Breeze, Tyson Kidd and Sami Zayn all picked up decisive victories as they prepared for the biggest match of their careers. With no clear favorite emerging from the pack to this point, the writing staff for NXT has done a masterful job of keeping fans guessing as the big match approaches.

Elsewhere on the card, Charlotte scored a big win heading into her NXT Women's Championship defense against Bayley while Sin Cara and Kalisto overcame The Vaudevillains to become the No. 1 contenders to the NXT Tag Team Championships, held by the seemingly unstoppable Ascension.

With the last episode before Takeover II in the books, take a look at the winners and losers from the September 4 show and see who is surging at the right time with the WWE Network special right around the corner.

Winners: Kalisto and Sin Cara

One of the biggest storylines entering NXT Takeover II has been the tournament to decide the new No. 1 contenders to The Ascension's tag titles. Thursday night, the dynamic duo of Sin Cara and Kalisto defeated The Vaudevillains (Aiden English and Simon Gotch) to become the next team to attempt to defeat Konnor and Viktor for the top prize in tag team wrestling.

Kalisto and Sin Cara have developed into one of the more entertaining and exciting teams in the sport. Their explosive offense and ability to work together to pull off some jaw-dropping double-team maneuvers have made them a joy to watch over the last month or so.

Wrestling a completely different style from that of their opponents, the dynamic of the tag title bout at Takeover II should be a fun one to watch.

It will not be the first time Kalisto has shared the ring with The Ascension. At Takeover I, he partnered with El Local in a losing effort. Can he turn his luck around and finally use his speed, agility and high-flying skills to knock off the seemingly unconquerable champions? We will find out come September 11.

Loser: CJ Parker

There was a point a month or two ago when CJ Parker was making major strides as a heel. His mic work had improved tenfold, and working with Xavier Woods had helped him evolve as an in-ring worker. After a series of matches with the main roster star, he suddenly dropped off of television, only to return Thursday and lose in quick fashion to NXT champion Adrian Neville.

One has to wonder if Parker has fallen out of favor with management and could be on his way out of NXT. If that is the case, it may very well be a mistake on the part of Triple H and those running the show. A solid midcard heel who was constantly improving in that role, Parker has the potential to be a valuable asset to the brand.

Unfortunately, there are so many incredible and talented individuals on the roster and so many more coming up (KENTA, Fergal Devitt and Kevin Steen) that there may not be a spot available for Parker. He may be destined to be a punching bag for the foreseeable future—if he has a future in NXT at all.

Winner: Bayley

The No. 1 contender to Charlotte's NXT Women's Championship proved Thursday night that she will not sit back and be walked all over as she has in the past.

Having been threatened, assaulted and bullied by her fellow Divas in the past, Bayley took to the ring during Thursday's show and demanded that Charlotte take her seriously because at Takeover, she would "seriously take the NXT Women's Championship."

The champion responded by pie-facing Bayley but found herself on the receiving end of the Bayley-to-Belly suplex, much to the delight of the NXT Universe.

It was an important step in the development of Bayley's character. Sure, the lovable side of her is what made her stand out from the rest of the Divas and helped her become one of the more popular performers on the developmental roster. At the same time, for her to evolve and move up the ranks, she needed to show some toughness and a take-no-prisoners attitude if she is to be taken seriously as a potential champion.

Winners: The NXT Fans

It is a great time to be a fan of NXT. Takeover II is coming up, and the brand has done an amazing job of building a Fatal 4-Way match for the NXT Championship that has no clear-cut favorite. Adrian Neville, Tyler Breeze, Tyson Kidd and Sami Zayn are all legitimate contenders to leave Full Sail University with the gold, and that will make for a much more exciting and dramatic main event.

Couple that with a big women's title bout between Charlotte and the immensely popular Bayley, a tag team title match between two polar opposite teams with the potential to surprise many and the debut of international sensation KENTA, and the Takeover II card is shaping up to be one of the most exciting in recent WWE history.

There is something for everyone, including a Hair vs. Hair match between Sylvester Lefort and the awesome Enzo Amore, and that variety often makes for the best and most complete shows.
