Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
When Lacy left the game, he had only racked up 12 carries for 34 yards and three receptions for 11 yards. On the other hand, backup running back James Starks ran the ball seven times for 37 yards and added two catches for 11 yards.
Green Bay must play it safe with Lacy. He is the long-term answer at running back, and his health should be the team’s top priority. As much as sitting him on the bench until he is 100 percent cleared will hurt the team in the short term, it will help his longevity and keep him on the field for years to come.
For fantasy owners who handcuffed Lacy with Starks, this is why you made the late-round selection. If Lacy misses any time, Starks will be the primary back for the Packers and will get the lion’s share of the carries.
As Fantasy Football Live said on Twitter, now is the time to pick up Starks if you didn't handcuff earlier:
But as Yahoo’s Brad Evans warned, you should not sell low on Lacy:
Unfortunately, this is not Lacy's first concussion in the NFL. The second-year player suffered a head injury in the second week of his rookie season and missed the following game while recovering.
Lacy himself was expecting a tough year. He told Rob Reischel of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he believed defenses would attack him this season:
"I think it will be tougher, because it's not like you're surprising everyone. When you first come in, people doubt you. They know what you did in college, but they don't know if it will translate to the next level. But once you get that year in and people see what you've done and it's no longer surprising, they're going to prepare for you the way they prepare for whoever else is good at that position.
"
While the loss against Seattle in Week 1 and Lacy’s injury will have many Green Bay fans and fantasy owners worried, the Packers are still one of the most dangerous offensive units in the league and will overcome the adversity.
A tough matchup against the defending Super Bowl champions would have been a test for any team. Expect Green Bay to bounce back in Week 2 against the New York Jets regardless of which running back gets the start.
