WWE's Top Tweets, Instagram Photos and Viral Videos for Week of Aug. 11

Ryan DilbertAug 15, 2014

WWE's best social media of the week allowed fans to feast on past SummerSlams, witness Roman Reigns Superman punch Johnny Manziel (sort of) and welcome Kevin Steen to the family.

As the summer's biggest pay-per-view approached, the most intriguing tweets, viral videos and Instagram photos featured an odd assortment of characters. Wendy's restaurants joined "The Masked Man" David Shoemaker, Chris Jericho and The Rock in entertaining and impacting fans via social media.

The Rock starts us off in somber fashion.

Per TMZ, The Rock's mother, Ata Maivia-Johnson, and cousin, NXT Diva Lina Fanene, were driving home from a fundraiser when a driver allegedly hit them head-on. The Brahma Bull posted an unsettling photo of the aftermath of the crash on Instagram, but it's the message he attached to it that is most powerful:

"

My mom & cousin @linafanene were struck head on by a drunk driver this week - they lived. First reaction is to find the person who did this and do unrelenting harm to them. But then you realize the most important thing is my family lived thru this and we can hug each other that much tighter these days. Hug your own family tighter today and be grateful you can tell them you love them. #BearHugsAndGratitude #100PercentPreventable #ChoicesMatter

"

The Rock is spot on here. Moments like these certainly make one appreciate things one might normally take for granted—like family.

Fortunately, both Fanene and Maivia-Johnson came out of the frightening situation alive and not seriously injured. The Rock later shared a more welcome sight, him smiling with his mother outside of a hospital:

He notes in the caption that his mother was "banged up, but she's a tough one and will make a full recovery."

A few days after word of the crash emerged, The Rock's fanbase got a chance to reflect on his past work, in particular some battles with Jericho. In WWE's latest top-10 video, The Great One played Y2J's victim for a good chunk of his biggest moments:

Did WWE miss any of the best Jericho highlights here?

Many of Jericho's wins in the video were of the fluky variety. Regardless of how many steel chairs and instances of interference it took, victory had to still be sweet. Heath Slater would certainly agree, having recently upset Seth Rollins thanks to some distraction.

The One Man Rock Band followed that up with a count-out win over Ziggler on Monday's Raw.

We now have to assume that the people running the Wendy's Twitter account were watching both triumphs. A recent defense of Slater points to them being fans of him.

John Cena delivered an impassioned promo on Monday night, but his gear distracted from his words. He looked ready to serve up fries at a fast food chain.

When one fan mentioned the irony in Cena once making fun of Slater for resembling the Wendy's logo only to dress like an employee there, the Wendy's Twitter account had a succinct, effective response:

Grantland's Shoemaker exercised similar conciseness in tearing down a fake Twitter account.

An account claiming to be future Hall of Famer The Undertaker fell victim to scrutiny from a variety of sources. Shoemaker pinpointed the major issue with the image "Mark Calaway" posted:

Mismatching hands or not, the account already has over 3,000 followers, Shoemaker included.

News that seemed to be too good to be real was in fact genuine. Steen is now a part of WWE. WWE.com announced early in the week that the indy star had officially signed a deal with the company.

Triple H posted a photo of him with the Canadian brawler in an NXT ring:

Sami Zayn, who has both partnered with and battled Steen during his indy days, took to Twitter to celebrate the announcement:

As Zayn points out, WWE's future brims with promise now that it has compiled an impressive number of great wrestlers from the independent circuit. He does shortchange Luke Harper by not mentioning him, though.

The journey for those men to attempt to become the next megastar will be fun to watch.

WWE is certainly trying to elevate Reigns to that spot. He made a recent appearance with Michelle Beadle on ESPN's SportsNation in the kind of promotional work often handed to Cena.

Reigns throttled cardboard versions of Lance Stephenson, Johnny Football and LeBron James in a fun video:

The next man to take a shot from Reigns will be Randy Orton when they collide at SummerSlam. In preparation for that big event, WWE packed highlights of every single version of it to date in a single video.

Watch as SummerSlam history unfolds in just minutes—The Ultimate Warrior, Bret Hart and Edge all leaving their imprint:

If WWE's new SuperCard game didn't completely ruin how productive you were at work, sitting down and soaking up every SummerSlam ever will certainly do the trick. In 2014's version, Jericho and Reigns will look to add new memories.

Soon enough, Zayn and Steen will have their crack at doing the same.
