WWE 2K15: Latest News on Gameplay and Superstar Renders
Expect the news on WWE 2K15 to come in hot and heavy every week leading up to the game's release on October 28. We learned about the single-player campaign-style mode, 2K Showcase, and the implementation of My Career in the series.
Last week during a conference call with creative producer Mark Little and WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels, further details on 2K Showcase were revealed, including the inclusion of estranged Superstar CM Punk in the game's roster.
More information should come in this weekend during SummerSlam in Los Angeles. The event has long been the platform for the game's biggest pre-release news and updates.
Yours truly will be on hand for the roster reveal as well as some hands-on time with the game.
While the roster reveal and impressions will surely render some compelling content, IGN has already delivered some exciting news and awesome screen shots.
Most have seen the in-game images of John Cena and Randy Orton.
But this pic of Goldust might be the most impressive one yet. It's clear that this game will be the most visually appealing wrestling title ever made.
If the roster reveal is handled the way it has been in the past—complete with in-game footage of each Superstar—it should be especially impacting with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One graphics to bedazzle us.
The eye candy is awesome, but many hardcore virtual grapplers want to know what—if anything—has been updated and improved as it pertains to gameplay.
According to Vincent Ingenito of IGN, who has already had hands-on experience with the game, fans may need to get prepared for the most realistic wrestling gameplay to date.
"It's a very clear step down a path that few wrestling games have ever walked," Ingenito writes. "I'm here to tell you that WWE 2K15 is, for lack of a better term, a wrestling sim."
Ingenito makes reference to things like fatigue, realistic grappling chains and appropriate pacing. Specifically, Ingenito talks about the beginning of a match, which is a rather subtle nuance that nearly every wrestling game in history has ignored:
"Wrestling fans know the drill: the two wrestlers go right into a classic collar-and-elbow lockup to jockey for position. It starts like rock, paper, scissors – with each player pressing one of three face buttons, and the winner advancing to a more advantageous position.
From here, both players play what is essentially a lock-picking game, rotating the right stick until they find the "sweet spot," and holding it there to improve their respective situation. During this time, the player with advantage can land strikes, or even wrench whatever limb they've grabbed a hold of. It's a lot more like the opening stages of a real match than running right up to your opponent for a spine-buster the moment the bell rings.
"
All this sounds exciting, but we won't know for sure until we get our hands on a controller and play it for ourselves. I plan on doing that this weekend. Bleacher Report will have consistent updates on the latest WWE 2K15 information leading up to release.
