The Giants Week 12 Review
The San Francisco Giants are playing extremely well.
Finishing the road trip, winning only half of their games still creates that sense of doubt in me. They need to start winning on the road, if they want to see the playoffs. The Colorado Rockies are nipping at their heels, only one game behind.
The key to their winning has not been pitching or hitting, but defense. When the Giants make defensive mistakes, the team struggle to over come them offensively. I am not just talking about errors, but mental mistakes too, like over running the ball or throwing to the wrong base for the out.

Now, don’t get me wrong. The Giants pitching has been superb and the offense has improved a lot.
I know. The defense has been over-the-top good at times, but there are times when they seem to fall apart.
Nate Schierholtz and Andres Torres are just playing like they own the outfield. They have showed off their arms by throwing people out. It was those plays, that I feel, won the games for them. They have shown me, that they can play their positions well. Schierholtz, especially, should be in the lineup in every game. Period.
Adding another outfielder is just puzzling to me. You have four great outfielders, why mess that up? This is not a weakness, except when Fred Lewis is in left field.
Would another bat help? Yes, but the would be better off looking for a first or second baseman.
Ryan Sadowski has filled in perfectly for Jonathon Sanchez. His only loss was when the Giants got shutout. He went five innings giving up only 3 runs. For his third start, I must say that I am impressed.
On a sad note Randy Johnson was placed on the 15 day Disabled List with a strained left shoulder.
Taking his place in the lineup? Sanchez, who has pitched two games, since going to the bullpen.
This really puzzles me. He has only pitched three innings in the last three weeks. He did pitch well in relief, though.
I do believe the Giants are in a good spot, but unless they get a solid first or second basemen, they will lose out on the wild card.
I would like to see what they do in the coming weeks before the trade deadline. I know two players who have lost value this year. Unless a miracle happens, Lewis and Sanchez are not going anywhere. If they do, the Giants are not going to get much back.
I don’t know. We’ll have to wait and see.
