WWE Money in the Bank 2014: Fringe Stars Who Will Make Big Statement

Aaron BowerJun 18, 2014

Money in the Bank is the most dramatic pay-per-view of the year, with chaos, carnage and often plenty of surprises.

Those surprises tend to come in the way of shock winners in the illustrious Ladder matches, with the victories tending to launch careers into orbit.

Things didn't quite work out for Damien Sandow last year, but participants will be eyeing the briefcase once again all the same.

Plus, with a second Ladder match in the offing, there is no telling just how many shocks we are in for.

As always, there will be a clutch of Superstars who will find this pay-per-view to be the perfect opportunity to make a massive statement.

Although the bulk of those opportunities will come in the manic surroundings of the Ladder match, there will be other areas in which the following wrestlers can potentially break out.

Erick Rowan and Luke Harper

For months, Bray Wyatt's sidekicks have been neatly placed in the background while their mentor goes on a rampage against the likes of John Cena.

It's easy to forget that Erick Rowan and Luke Harper were NXT tag team champions and that they make a pretty savvy duo when Wyatt isn't there, too.

Sure, their real job has been to elevate Wyatt toward main event status, but they are now ready to make an impact on their own.

With Wyatt competing in the Ladder match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Rowan and Harper have been booked against The Usos with gold on the line.

A title of some kind seems to be bizarrely missing from The Wyatt Family's resume so far in the WWE, but that will all change at Money in the Bank. Luke Harper is unusually agile for a big man, so he and The Usos in particular should put on some great segments.

They came close to stealing the show during Cena and Bray's match at Payback. This time around, they will make a huge statement of their own by winning gold.

Kofi Kingston

As expected, it was announced this week that there will be a second Ladder match at Money in the Bank.

The traditional briefcase will indeed be put on the line for someone to snatch, and although Kofi Kingston won't win the match, he will almost certainly be a vital inclusion.

Matches like these are perfect for Kingston, who has a really good track record of entertaining in extreme scenarios. Whether it is a Battle Royal, a Royal Rumble or a Money in the Bank match, Kingston has almost become a stock inclusion for the WWE.

He's a fringe star but will once again remind everyone why he is such a talent at Money in the Bank. Surely he'll get another major push in the coming months and years, because his talent is unquestionable.

Bad News Barrett

Contestants of the Money in the Bank Ladder match, I'm afraid I've got some bad news!

It probably doesn't have the same effect when it's written as opposed to spoken by the man himself, but Bad News Barrett has a great chance of picking up that illustrious briefcase at the event.

Why?

Barrett is long overdue a push to main event status, and he now has a gimmick that can carry him all the way to the top. He's a certified heat magnet, but at the same time, the fans are pretty into him.

That's a unique mix when it comes to getting a push, and it will certainly help him get to the top of the tree. Consider Bad News Barrett one of the favorites to pick up that case at Money in the Bank, and expect him to cash it in successfully.

This isn't going to be another Damien Sandow episode. Bad News Barrett's career will really pick up at Money in the Bank.

Dolph Ziggler

4 of 5

The constant trials of Dolph Ziggler have continued over the last few weeks, as his army of fans remain frustrated at how their man just isn't getting a push.

With that being said, he may get a real chance to go out and impress at Money in the Bank. If he is placed in the second Ladder match, he will have real creative freedom to go out and impress. Given how he has teetered on the fringes for the last year or so, that is a huge opportunity.

Make no mistake about it, Dolph Ziggler can entertain. He is supremely talented, which is a big reason why he's so popular.

Expect him to put in a really strong performance during that Ladder match, and although he won't win it, he will hopefully do enough to convince the WWE that he is worthy of that move up the card once again.

Rusev

5 of 5

It's pretty interesting to note that after a good few months of destroying poor opponents, Rusev was finally handed a defeat of sorts this past week on Raw.

However, even though he lost out to Roman Reigns at the very end of that Battle Royal, he put on a great showing once again. The time has now come for him to make the step up, a journey which should start at Money in the Bank.

Unleash him, and put him in that second Ladder match. Heck, he could even be a realistic contender to actually win it, which would give him time to grow even more before cashing in the briefcase.

He's starting to get some momentum behind him and is a freak of a talent inside the ring. This could be Rusev's big breakout moment, as he makes his big WWE arrival at Money in the Bank.
